Is it worth getting a hks 264/272 cam combo on my 7 bolt? I find that my airflow stays the same from about 5500 rpm to redline. Can anyone look at my mods and tell me where i'm being restricted. I'm thinkin for now, its at my head and having higher lift and longer duration cams would help me out. Correct me if i'm wrong.

Mods:
ete-32 turbo (50 trim) runing about 20psi
stock 7 bolt
lightly ported 2g manifold and o2 housing
2.5 inch to 3 inch exhaust without CAT
880 injectors
dsmlink
fmic

Let me know what any of you good tuners think. I was thinking to get an evoIII manifold and some o2 housing at the same time.

cams sure wont hurt anything just make sure you dont go beyond the limits of that 7 bolts bottom end.

By the sounds of things id say you need a new downpipe, if its 2.5" to 3". the o2 housins is generally a huge restriction even if its ported, and you can get pretty far with a 2g manifold just get it ported out more.

If you do get cams I recommend getting new lifters, spring, porting, the works. you dont HAVE to get anything else but im a do it once, do it right kinda guy.

I dont see the mention of an intake pipe in your mods either unless you didnt list it, if you have the accordian still somehow id get that thing out of there.

My times slip is on 272/272 stock 7-bolt motor with stock intake maifold You really don't need a bulit engine to run 272/272 Just lots of good tuning, and free flowing bolt ons.

I don't see a 1G throttle body on there either ....get one they are cheap and easy to find and make a pretty decent difference.

I have the 272's with no upgraded valve springs ....just keep it the rpms below redline.

Cams will make a good difference for your setup. However, as stated above you probably won't need springs or retainers. When I upgraded to my hks cam setup 264/272 I asked Shepherd if I would need new springs and retainers. He said they used the stockers on his car for a long time and that I probably would never have a problem. He also takes the rpm up to 9K. He told me a lot about stock parts that people eliminate that really are very strong. Anyways, I'd say cams would make a perfect addition to your setup.

So it seems like I'll be getting some cams, and leaving my stock springs and retainers. So next, would my restrictive points be my O2 housing and throttle body? I'll probably be getting a 1G TB, and a new O2 housing.

Is it worth me getting an EVO III manifold, or will my exhaust be flowing well enough after the new O2 housing?

Thanks

ive seen 3" tubular o2 housing but im not positive where I saw them.

Some people have ran 10's on really ported out 2g manifolds so you can probably use that for a while, im not sure if the evo manifiold is much better then a 2g.

Theres always tubular manifolds but you run the risk of cracking it.

working your head over is a good idea after that, since a lot of horsepower can be made from heads. Intake manifolds never hurt either.

Agreed, some sort of O2 housing as in a tubular or dump would be the next beneficial part. A 2g exhaust manifold is good, and an Evo3 is only marginally better, a good ported 2g would be sufficient. Also remember a larger throttle body will be good, but having a matched intake manifold like the 1g or an aftermarket one like a magnus would be needed, not to mention a 1g head or port matching your current head. Otherwise, although a better tb, it would be wasted without the extra parts of a new intake mani and matched head.

Do not put a 1G intake manifold on a 2G head....there is a tremendous amount of material to be removed off the bottom of the port to make it work and you don't want a lower port you want a direct shot at the valve into the combustion chamber.

Well, usually people go with the intake/head match from a 1g, but I have heard of people using the 1g intake on a 2g head, apparently though staytuned has said it doesn't work very well, thanks.

Yes if you swap the complete 1G head, intake and TB onto a 2G car you will feel the benefits. I had the intake off and really took a good look at the ports and what needed to be done to make the ports match up and I changed my mind really quick....here is what I saw when I placed the 1G gasket on the 2G head ports...click the pic for larger view.
