Hi

I have just installed my 6 bolt into my 2g along with a 50 trim and the other supporting mods , i was just wondering i put in my 264's would it be worth while to get rid of them and get a set of 272's .

Will i notice a big difference??

Thanks

This has been discussed before, and there is an article somewhere with actual dyno results (AMS did a comparo I think). The concensus is the power/torque is a little different from each set, but the differences are negligible. For $600 you will gain/lose less than 10hp from changing between these two sets. Doesn't seem worth the money to me. Once you have ditched the stock cams, you've already made the big improvement, if you want to squeeze out the last few hp, investigate further, but I'd stick with what you have unless you find a super deal and have $ to burn.

My .02

I'll look for the info I mentioned above too.

Thanks

I figured the gains would be minimal, maybe a bit more top end??

thanks

Keep in mind their test was done on a 16g equipped car. At the bottom of that link they mention that a bigger turbo might correspond better to the 272s. Your 50 trim for example might benefit more than these runs indicate.

Hopefully someone with a bigger turbo who switched from 264s to 272s will chime in.

Agree, but I still think the improvements would be small. Even if you could get an additional 10hp out of the deal, would you get the 272's? $600 can get you a lot of other stuff, and the thread starter did ask if it would make a "big" difference. Nonetheless no one but an owner of car with a bigger turbo and a 264 swapped for 272 car can answer that.

Big cams need to see a lot of airflow to benefit from them. A 16g at 20 psi or whatever they were testing at isn't making any real power nor is it pushing a lot of air. Your 50 trim at 20 psi will push significantly more power so you will gain more from them. 272s are perfectly streetable and cost the same so I don't understand why this is even a question?!

He already has the 264's in the car...

A friend of mine had the 264s for about a year and I think about 2 weeks ago she switched to the 272, she said she noticed a pretty big difference but most of the difference came from top end, and trust me I raced her before she got the 272s and I think its worth the extra cash..... She's running a 57 trim precision turbo with all supporting mods btw...

Thanks guys

Ive had these cams for over a year just never had time to put them in , plus i had the 16g at the time so they were ideal.

Now that i have the 50 trim i might just try and unload these for some 272's it sounds like these will be more suitable for my turbo.

In that case, I'd say do it! If you can find a super deal on the 272's you could almost break even! I think we were all under the impression you were USING the 264's. I would definitely suggest doing the upgrade knowing this; at this point you should be out another $50-$75 tops.

I'd buy some top end for $50, sounds more reasonable than $600! :thumb:

Tort switched from HKS 264/272s to FP2s and picked up some power, especially up top. It didn't really hurt spool noticeably. You can sell your HKS cams to cover the cost of FPs.

Thats a good idea, might even end up making some $$.

Are the fp2's much better then the 272's?? i thought they were the same kind of cam

The FP2s were designed specifically for the 2.0L running mid-large turbos and high RPMs. FP contracted CompCams to manufacture them after several years development / dyno tuning by FP.

Installed straight up (i.e. no cam degreeing) my car ran .5sec and 5mph faster in the 1/4mile (23psi on pump) and idles like stock.

These are the real deal :dsm:

Yeah FP has some "X" cams now I emailed and they offer alittle more in the specs don't remember, But they are on the web site now!! :dsm:
