Recently I was in a car accident. The rear of my car got smashed up pretty good. I drove the car home 200 miles from where I was on a donut (One of the tires somehow got a giant hole in the sidewall). I immediately took it to a body shop to get repaired (Insurance covered it). I got new tires all around, and the body shop just had some other shop mount and balance the tires when they had the rear aligned.
Since then, I had this problem where in the 60-70MPH range I would get a repetitive, but not constant, humming noise. On curves to the left the noise would completely go away. I thought it was a wheel bearing and my mechanic seemed to agree. I got a new wheel bearing and the mechanic replaced the driver's side bearing. As a side note, I also had a rear camber kit installed and the alignment done again.
He said the car still made the noise and figured that he misdiagnosed which side the bearing was failing in and used the old one from the driver's side and put it in the passenger side for free. Now the car has stopped making the noise in a straight line. As well, it doesn't make the noise on left curves. However, on right curves the noise is still there.
Also, my car gets kind of shakey when I hit about 80-85MPH.
I'm thinking the other bearing is bad too. I'm really pissed because I was going to get a new bearing and have that installed instead, but there were time constraints because I really needed my car.
Does anyone think this is the cause? I really don't want to replace the other bearing and have the problem continue and have to pay for some other crap later.
