Hey all, I've been having a weird issue with my car as of lately. Initially I thought I was getting gas in the crank case, but I did some more testing and ruled that out. I did a compression test and i actually did it wrong and it still passed ( I was freezing my you know what's off and in a hurry forgot to hold the throttle open when cranking )

139-137-142-143. Not great, not to service limit yet, and this was with the throttle closed. Haven't had a chance to re test it but its on my list.

I also have a leak down test on my list, just haven't had time and that one is a little more involved.

One other symptom I think I have is, if I pop off my oil filler cap I can hear and "think" I smell exhaust escaping. I haven't ever popped the cap off running, or if I have I wasn't paying attention this much. But it literally sounds like the exhaust is pulsing inside the head, I have a video but no time to upload tonight.

I am waiting on a set of oil catch cans to install, manifold, new vc, and do a timing belt job.

My oil pressure is 30psi at idle, and pegs out my 100psi gauge by 4k. As far as I can tell the oil isn't any thicker or thinner and I'm still 1500 miles from my oil change mileage. I run 10w30 Pennzoil.

What other things should I look for? I searched a lot over the last few days but every thread is about a BSE.

Thanks!

My oil psi readings are very similar. Mine is a 6 bolt though. Where do you have your oil pressure gauge sourced from?

Im also interested to know this and what is considered the ideal spot to source from? I have used the stock location in the past.

My gauge is coming off the ofh stock location. It just recently started acting up, it has been in the single digits to 30-40* the last month. When it first started I kinda blew it off as maybe just the cold weather, but she gets up to operating temps on the coolant side (also aftermarket gauge)

Before this problem my oil pressure was a rock solid 12 psi at idle.

Also, just to throw it out there, my oil is reading dead center between the high low marks. The only leak I have is a small drip from my oil return at the pan and it literally leaves a random drop here and there. That will be fixed when I pull the turbo in the next week or so and do a manifold/tubular o2.

This is at idle minutes before I did my compression test. The car was idling for 20 minutes and the lowest it went down to was this.

Mine is also off the ofh and I have a glow shift electronic oil pressure gauge. I thought maybe it was the gauge so I even switched it to a mechanical gauge and still got the same readings. Hopefully someone can shed some light on this situation.

Glowhift elec oil pressure gauges are all over the place. Check your grounds and 12v signal in. Make sure everything is good.
Example: I have the same gauge. I also have a working dummy light just in case. My oil pressure at hot idle is reading 0-2psi LOL. Now if that were true the engine wouldnt have lasted 30 minutes and the dummy light would be on. And i have perfect ground and solid feed goiing to the gauge.

My point clearly is to get a mechanical gauge on there asap. even if its temporary. Let it warm up, watch the gauge. I think you'll find its not that high.

I will check all that out. I just think the the gauge is actually reading correctly. Its not bouncing around or all over the place, its just 20psi higher than it should be. But ill find a mechanical gauge that I can screw directly into the ofh and see what I get.

Is that port 1/8 npt?

This is my cruise to work @ 60mph, roughly 2,600 rpm. Reads about 82psi. Its literally just always 20psi higher, since before it would be just above 60psi.

And the only thing I've done to the car in the last two weeks was put on a brand new clutch master. I bled it, adjusted the pedal in conjunction with the slave and everything is perfect. Now this seems to have happened around when I fixed that... never put that bit together till right meow.

Any thoughts on that?
