Hey all!

First things first, I didnt know whether to put this in the maintenance or regular forum? So here it goes. (If you have to move it I'm sorry)

My 95' GST is about to turn 192k and Im getting the itch to go further with my mods. As it currently sits I have ALL the supporting mods except for a fuel pump (currently rewired stocker) and injectors... turbo, exhaust, fmic, afpr, safc, logger cable etc etc...

I plan on doing the timing belt at 195k as thats on schedule with when the previous owner did it. It tested great in a compression test 5-6 months ago and can do it again since I dont remember the #'s.

The only known problems im having are:
A) Both exhaust manifold gaskets started to leak (I have ordered them and they should be here today actually)
B) It HATES starting up cold (sitting all night and started under 45* or so) but I've come to hear this is fairly normal?
C) Stutters when it starts after sitting between 15-45 minutes after fully warmed up, heard this is typical with fuel labs afpr because it needs to prime again?? Maybe thats incorrect.

Other than that she runs strong, the pre turbo exhaust leaks did affect spool up and made the power curve seem flat, but Im staying off the throttle till I get the new gaskets installed.

Im just leary of upping the boost on a motor about to turn 200k. Looking to go somewhere in the neighborhood of 18psi, Im currently at 11 with my stock pump/injectors, 12 hits fuel cut.

Thoughts?

Im sure I'm going to have opposing opinions but if your motor sounds and checks out to be healthy as far as no odd noises, compression test are at a suggested level. Then I would say the 200k will work better then a brand new block. It's an old school muscle car trick called seasoned blocks, the heating and cooling of the cast iron throughout its lifetime actually makes it stronger. I would look into your other issues but the mileage on the motor isnt something that I would be worried about. As long as your bushings/ball joints/struts and tie rods are ok then keep on the right track!

I like that bit on seasoned blocks! I never even thought of that but I googled it and it makes sense.

But that aside, my concern wasnt really the block itself. More along the lines of rotating parts and a rod going through said block...

I also have a full bushing kit from the PO when I bought the car... somewhere... haha, I just havent had the motivation to even start that sh!t show. I did one on my jeep thats only about 1/2 of the bushings and it took me 3 days to get everything torn out and replaced and I ruined 2 of the new ones in the process. It sucks

I would look into compression and if the oil pressure is good that's about all you can base yourself on without taking things apart

Yea and usual wear items on a high mileage car would be more like suspension, wheel bearings, driveshaft bearings, and the terrible terrible bushings that you don't want to think about LOL

Rod going isn't something that you will be able to predict but unless your really pushing the stock block I don't see it being the biggest concern

Alright cool, I will do another compression test soon, before I pull the trigger on injectors and pump. According to my aftermarket oil pressure gauge I sit at about 11psi oil pressure at idle and gets around 80-90psi WOT 6k+

From what Ive read, thats within spec on oil.

Ran into another problem that Ill have to deal with before I go further. My obd2 cable wont recognize my computer so I need to find 2g datalogger :ohdamn:

Miles dont mean as much as people make them out to be... What KIND of miles is way more important. I had an Accord with 260k that was ready and able anytime and was great, yet my GFs 120k 2000 Celica was a straight ####ing pile of shit (because she doesnt take care of cars) It grinded into gear, was ran dry on oil and knocked so I rolled rod bearings in it, brakes were done... I think you get my point.
Read the build thread on my car, that'll give you some reasurance.

I have been taking care of it pretty well, aside of it being a basket case when I bought it it hasn't had any problems except the two exhaust leaks... which I picked up on very quickly when it felt like the power curve "flattened out".

But, that being said, I've only had the car a year of its life. And it was bought from a 16 year old who bought it to race his brothers mustang LOL...

Oh well, everything seems to be in my favor testing wise so I guess we'll see.

Gaskets came in today :) now I need a logger

good ol 16 year old ricers. LOLl
hope everything goes well!

Yeah im hoping it goes well... Ive been going back and forth about getting injectors for quite a while now, I know when I do it becomes "real", so to speak...

But needless to say, id like to find a logger first and learn how to use it and read it while its stock and nothing is messed with. I thought my OBD2 to usb cable would work but no programs pick it up and the computer doesnt recognize it. I tried 4 different freeware downloads and nothing.

Thanks for all the responses!

Well, finally got around to replacing this pos. I found out my manifold has been ported and its with a 16g, 7cm... but they reused the 6cm gasket? Pretty hack imo. But shes got a nice new three layer stainless 7cm gasket in her now ;) No more leak, hit 13 psi now instead of 9 with all these leaks!
