Howdy all. This is a basic question, but my search didn't turn-up anything too specific. I've got a used-up/spent 92 GST w/ a good 6-bolt. And I've got a super-clean, shiney, original 94 2.0 NT. I figure the 6-bolt is going into the 94 sooner or later. The wiring harness in the 94 is so clean and pretty. It's still factory-perfect, there is no way I can cut it. What I want to do is use aftermarket injectors with high-impedence, so I can just avoid the resistor-pack issue. I've read that RC 550s will work, but I don't want to mod the car at all; I don't want to splice-in an SAFC, or have it visible in the dash. I see that PTE and others make 390s, 440s, etc... in hi-impedence, but they are listed as "sport-compact", and not "DSM" compatible. I wouldn't mind starting to accumulate the parts for the swap as I see them become available at a good price, so I am asking what I should be looking for.

Are the "sport-compact" injectors physically going to fit? Are the electrical plugs compatible? Does it matter if they are ball or disc type?

Why not just wire in a resistor pack and mount it in the stock location, it's very simple and can still look stock and unmodified.

This car is super-clean, and I really don't want to cut the harness. Plus, even if I felt like pulling the dash to swap harnesses, I doubt I could find one as nice as the original. Both of the above options sound like a lot more work than swapping 4 injectors. The car in question is all original, un-modified, well cared-for, and I'd like to keep it that way.

The high impedance injectors are actually superior in performance and tunability. They also can withstand much higher FP levels so you can blast over 60psi of BFP through these without them flinching.

Just run a set of high impedance without a resistor pack and will be fine. Its much less effort than wiring in the resistor pack. Even on the turbo cars with the resistor pack stock, you can drop in some 1600cc high impedance injectors for example, unplug the resistor pack and they will work great. Alot of high HP tuners out there have said that the tunability, drivability and overall manners with the high impedance injectors trump the bigger flowing low impedance injectors ten fold.

Low impedance injectors are kind of a thing of the past. When mitsu first started putting the 450's in the cars back in the day, it was unheard of to use an injector that big so they had to run these resistors to control them and make them compatable with the factory ECU's, plus it was cheaper for the manufacturer to do this than try and make the ECU compatable for them. Now a days its almost a wash out since there are so many companies out there making them high impedance and in larger CC's because the newer model ECU's have the technology to control them.

BUT, because the factory ECU is going to be set for 450's, an AFC or MAFT would be a good idea. Granite, using 550's with a 2g MAF or similar will almost even themselves out, it would be more ideal to get some kind of tuning device just to get it right on the money.

Thanks man, I appreciate the response. I was hoping I could get a set of high-impedence injectors as close as possible to 450's. As I mentioned about the harness, I'd like to keep the car as unmodded as possible.

I have no HP goals at all, it a FWD car. I've got two 1G's, and my GST is my first turbo. That thing is barely modded, bit it still just shoots side-ways off the road, or into the car I'm trying to pass, if I floor it in first or second. And that's with a LSD.

I'll save the "unleashing of the ponies" for when my ugly rusted-out beater is an AWD car. I know that now I have tasted of the nectar called "boost", I will never be able to go back! The shiney-perfect 94 will be a garage queen, already is. Nothing but bolt-ons gonna happen there. I'll cut the air-can, exhaust, add a strut-brace, etc..., but I don't think I'll be able to wire-in an AFC. I'm trying to get away with just an AFPR and a data-logger, at most. I wish their was a plug-and play harness for the SAFC.

Maybe, if I drove a car with a 16g and was totally impressed by the quicker spool, I'd change my mind, but for now, I think the 14b, MBC, K&N, 2 1/2" exhaust combo has already maxed-out my FWD chassis.

Since it did come up, would a 2G MAF help the spool-up of the turbo at all, or just the higher-rpm flow?

You could wire an AFC in with those quick connectors so you dont have to gut the harness up, they work good as ive used them before for the same task.

And the 2g maf will help spool a little bit with the less restriction, along with better flow throughout the rpm range. Theres plug and play harnessed for 1g-2g MAF swaps so you dont have to worry about harness hacking for that either.

I'd much rather just find something high-impedence in the 440-490cc range, and stay stock. My only question was whether or not RC and PTE high-impedence sport-compact injectors would fit/match plugs with the other-wise stock set-up. All this info is usefull as hell, but it's getting away from my original post.

Thanks, though, Joe.

Yes, Most likely it will be a honda style and you may have to shave a tab off the injector itself.

Tell you what, ill call PTE and FIC for you here and see whats up and if they offer a high impedance mitsu style. Ill shoot you a PM when i get the info.

Schweet. Really appreciate it.
