I'm in the process of gathering the last of my research before I purchase my motor internals. Now I'm sticking with the 2.0l platform and wanted to go with a high compression piston. I have seen many mixed results but nothing really bad with running the 9:1 or 10:1 piston. I have decided to go with the 9:1 due to the fact I will be using meth injection on pump gas ( I don't have access to Ethanol in Italy).
So will I have to run a thicker Head Gasket with the higher compression piston? I have a 4 layer Mitsubishi head gasket that I will be using if I don't need a thicker one. I have a free lancer doing a full race port and 1mm over sized valves on my head. The block will be decked as well as the head for the seal. Now my choice for rod's are Eagle and was looking at either the Wiseco or Manley pistons for that compression ratio.
I just blew my Turbonetics 60-1 ya that turbo everyone loved and hated when it blew mine lasted for some years of abuse. So the EvoIII is on there for now. I am about to purchase one of FP's Red's before they are gone, so that is the turbo I will be using.
My overall goal is 500-550 H.P which I believe will be achievable with some dyno tuning. The car is my D.D which is why I want a boost in compression for the low end grunt that is lost through the intake manifold, cam's and the fact I won't have to completely push the turbo to the max to get my level of H.P.
