Ive decided to keep my 2g and get the 1g awd Ive been looking at, but I want some more power in my 2g. Should I build a turbo kit from that "Build a turbo under 1000" thread or just get some higher compression pistons? If I do turbo, I will only be pushing 6 psi max as I dont want to destroy the engine on the 2g again, and I want to use it as a daily driver. And please don't say just spend the money on the 1g because there is a seperate reserve for that.

Well I would go do both kind of. Get the turbo kit and run it at 6 PSI until your motor is done or you have more money for it. Then just build a good 420a (is their such a thing?) with lower compression pistions like 8.5:1 and now add some boost and have fun. I would personally just sell the car and get a GSX but that is only me and I'm sure you've heard that one a few dozen times.

And good luck on your 1G purchase.

high comp, turbo lag in a daily driver doesnt make sense to me....altho at 6psi i wouldnt be to noticable... the ammount of stress added by a turbocharger (even at 6 psi) is insane, you wouldnt see this with high compression pistons...

if it were me and i knew i was getting a 1g awd and just wanted to pep up the n/t a bit, id get a stroker with high compression pistons and some nitrous.

or you could just boost it at 6psi for a bit. even only at 6psi its gonna be shitloads faster than it is now. probably just as fast or a wee bit faster than a stock 2g gst.

just depends on if you want power at hand, or want to wait a bit for the power to come.

i am getting a gsx, 1g ...

sorry i could have said that in this post but seemed to slip my mind

anyone actually have high comp pistons ina 420a with an experience to share?

i don't have experience with a high compression setup but i do know something about it. there is a dsm shop in clearwater florida called sidewinder dsm that does some great work. me and the tech discussed the same issue and from what i understand adding a turbo, even with lower boost, is more costly and puts mucho stress on the engine. a higher compression setup (port and polish, etc.) will make better use of the "hidden power" your engine already has...somewhat making it run more efficiently. just make sure you replace the piston rings but if you are putting high compression pistons you already do that anyway. if you go that route let me know...i plan on doing a high compression setup on my 2gNT next summer and would like to know how much of a difference it makes. good luck.
