So I just rebuilt a 6-bolt block, it was decked, as was the head, I installed a really crappy no name head gasket I had sitting around... not thinking I would issues until I could order MLS. Well something happed and the timing belt jumped. When I took everything apart I drained the coolant and there as oil in it, but in the ~600 mile I drove it there were no other signs of problems. Then when I got to the headgasket I pulled the head off and absolutely none of the gasket was sticking to the head. but it was stuck to the block. Now I don't really know exactly what this means, or if this is my issue with oil in the coolant. I'm just trying to get some opinions before I put everything back together, I don't want to have and problems with the new HG after I install it.

So if anyone has ever had this problem(probably just cuz of the bad gasket) would the fact that the gasket wasn't sealed on the head have something to do with the oil/coolant problem?

Well there could be a number of things that can cause the coolant to have oil in it. For starters, look over the head gasket for cracks or a spot where it could have blown out and allowed oil to shoot by. I would be around the smaller oil ports, that is where the most pressure is on the block transfering into the head. If the head gasket looks ok then I'd pull off the oil filter and make sure the bolt holding the oil cooler on is tight. If not, the oil pressure is so high in that area that it would cause the oil to mix into the coolant as you said it did. If everything in those 2 spots are ok then I would get your head looked at. It could be cracked. Just a few things to think about before eliminating everything else and saying it was the head gasket. Good luck

I learned my lesson about cheap head gaskets the hard way. Stick with what you KNOW is good, and take your time prepping both surfaces and you should be fine.
