I recently bought a 90 Talon TSI and the guy said it would need rings. So I pulled it apart, and found the bottom timing gear had started backing itself off. I put it back in time and got it running. I filled it with oil, and drove it about 3 miles, then the oil light came on and it died. Now it will turn over, but the cams aren't turning. But the timing belt is still tight up top. Any ideas on what all got messed up???

You might have lost some teeth in the belt which would let the crank turn but the cams stay still, most likely you bent valves in the head also. did you put a new timing belt when you did all the work?

took the tensioner off to relieve the tension, then put the belt back on then the tensioner...when I checked the motor out, the crank bolt was finger tight, thats why I started with the timing..Also when the car went down, there was no oil on the stick, any ideas where it all went...oh yea..no oil trail behind me...I traced it back...

when I set the timing belt I use these steps

1. compress the tensioner and put a pin in it to keep it compressed
2. install the timing belt making sure all the marks line up
4. set the tensioner pully with the correct amount of tension.
5. Pull the pin
6. turn the motor over by hand making sure everything stays lined up

as far as your oil, it could be going out the exhaust via turbo, valve stem seals, burning oil through the rings. or a leak somewhere.

Did you make sure it was at TDC and did you rotate the crank by hand at least 6 revolutions to make sure the marks lined back up?
