help with rocket science behind spring compressors

Can't figure these out for the life of me. I don't know how those wing nuts are supposed to hold that lower hook which is loose there hooking nothing unless I screw the bolt in which would get stuck at the top there in the wheel well.

You take the entire assembly off the car. Spring compressors aren't meant to be used with the strut/spring assembly still on the car.

Can a mod merge this with the other one I did on accident with the Pic? Took forever having to use a browser to get the Pic in since my Tamarack app won't do it
