Calgary,
I am planning to get a set of component speakers and am going to do the install myself (my first one... woo hoo) and I was wondering how and where would be the best place to mount the crossover (my guess is in the door)and also, how and where have you guys installed the tweeter?? Do you still run those factory dash tweets, or are these replaced by the tweeters that come with the component set. Isn't it possible to mount the tweets onto the mids, or is that not a good idea. Any pics of what you have done would be awesome..

Thanks in advance for the help

id say to mount the tweeters in teh factory dash mount just cause the wires are already ran and everything it just makes it a whole lot easier

Be careful if you're going to use the stock tweeter wires. I read somewhere that the wires also do a loop not only to the deck but to the amp as well; there was a warning to disconnect the extra lead. I don't recall the specifics, but maybe somene else can help here. Is there a way you could use the stock speaker wire to help pull some new wire from the top of the dash to the bottom? Good Luck

I have no idea whether or not my car was equipped with the stock factory amp, when I got the car a couple months ago, I researched a bit about the audio system on the cars, and found out about this factory amp so I went to go look and see for myself what it looked like, but there was not one there, and it came with an aftermarket deck. So either it came with one and was removed or there wasn't one there in the first place. I guess I could check if there is an extra lead in the wires or not.

When installing the aftermarket tweeter, what kind of modifications and custom work will I have to do to fit a 1 inch or 3/4 inch tweeter into the factory tweeter location, which is think is 3 or 3.5 inches... or will the component set include some kind of installation package in flushmounting the tweeters

I just did my first install. I used a polk db component set and ran new wiring. Just pop the little wire/mesh grill off the tweeter with a small flathead screwdriver. You will the have the speaker exposed. Then, remove the door panel with care. I mounted the crossover in the door....and later found out that my window would not roll down all the way...LOL I had to take the door apart and move the crossover. I could not find a good place that it would fit in. I eventually mounted the crossover on the inside of the door panel under the littlehandle where you grab the door. The harderst part was running the wires through the little rubber tube by the door hinges. I used a coat hanger and WD-40 to get them through :D
