I have a 98 eclipse GST and my tranny decided to eat 2nd gear last night:cry: Now i have the oportunity to buy a 97 gst spyder tranny but i know that alot of spyder parts are different. The guy is a bit shady and told me all i need are new 1g axel ends and everything else will fit so i need help understanding if this swap is worth it! i need help and need it soon!

If you want to save money in the long run you could always look at a autoswap. I've been so annoyed with my 5 speed lately (though its running fine again) I have considered swapping even though I have a fairly fresh Lucas English rebuilt tranny. There is just too many problems with 5 speeds.

Apparently it's not even that complicated.

I'm sure that is "KF5M312V VXF", not "KF5M312WXF".

It means it is a '93-'98 2.4L Galant (similar to the 2G 2.4L Spyder) transmission and that it uses different axles than your GST (or 2.0L GST Spyder). Long story short, you need to find the correct axles as the ones you have won't fit your transmission. Everything else should be kosher.

Here's some more info on this sort of thing:

Well after reading other post about putting the gallant tranny in my eclipse i decided against it because i figured that it would just blow up any way. I have now ended up buying a true 97 gst tranny, the number on it is KF6M332SPZT. What does the six mean? and it could possibly just be a mistake by him. Also i bought the galant tranny from a guy in annopolis from a craigslist ad, names brandon, last four of his cell is 9889, he ripped me off and dissapeared after i found out it was the wrong trans, be cautious with the guy. He has $500 from me.

A "6" would signify that it was a six-speed transmission. I think you're right in believing it was an error on his part. :)
