like the title says......can someone give me a quick rundown of how to remove/install the front wheel hub assmembly?.....like what things i need to remove to get to the bolts in the back and how to pull it off.

thanks

I did the rear one yesterday. You'll need to take the tire off. The large axle nut on my 2g was 30mm and took a 1/2" breaker bar plus 3 foot cheater bar. I'd suggest leaving your rotor and calipers on until you get the axle nut off because this way, you can have someone hold the brakes down while you're stomping on the cheater bar trying to break the nut free. After you loosen the nut, take off the calipers bolts (14mm) and remove the rotor. Take out the wheel bearing bolts from the back (14mm). At this point, you can get a slide hammer from your local shop or just take a hammer and carefully pound out the hub assembly. Good luck.

Edit: The front axle nut is 32mm. Why they are different, I don't know.

Be careful when doing this. Early 2Gs are notorious for having the hub splines freeze. Mine took a 25 Ton press to get out. It laughed at a slide hammer, a 6-ton three jaw puller, an a 12 Ton press before we got it to the big press. Be careful if you are using heat, as it will weaken the axle splines. Also, if you have trouble getting it out, and need to have it pressed out, getting the axle out of the car with the splines stuck is a pain in the ass. To rectify this, remove the two subframe bolts holding the lower A-Arm member, and move the hub UP. This will give you enough leverage to get a prybar in the other end of the axle, and pop out the ring clip from the transmission spline (Or the block member, depending on the side). Then, you can unbolt the hub and bring the whole assembly, axle included, down to your local shop to get pressed out.

Oh, and make sure you have a good wrench when you try to get that hub nut off. I snapped two 1/2 inch ratchets with 3 foot cheater bars on them. 1/2 Impact gun got it off in nothing flat. Don't forget the cotter pin.

Matt.
