My wheel bearings in the rear pass. side self destructed bigtime.

Bought a new hub assembly from Carquest. It was much unlike the one for the front. It didn't come with wheel studs, or a mating surface for the rotor. ust a smallish housing with the 4 bolt holes and the bearings.

I know on the fronts it took some very hard pounding on the studs and the rotor mating surface to knock the 10 years of rust off the hub assembly and get it out.

However, I am hesitant to do the same technique on the rear as I don't have new studs and rotor mating surface.

Is there a proper way to remove the hub without just beating the snot out of it? And also, why did my hub assembly not come with wheel studs and the wheel mating surface?

Correct, with what you have to work with a press will be necessary. Beating on it will more than likely "mushroom" the spindle.

The reason why it's different from the front is that you did not purchase the wheel hub assembly for the rear, just the rear bearing assembly (no matter what Carquest told you). Now you have to separate the 2 and the reinstall them back together with the new bearing assembly. The same applies to the front.....you can purchase the fronts as a bearing assembly (same predicament as you're having now), or you can purchase a complete hub assembly (which is what you did) that will come with all you need....just undo 4 bolts and swap out (once you get that far).

Of course a complete hub assembly is roughly twice the cost compared to just a bearing assembly.

You may have 94 hubs in your rear. I bought the 95 bearing assemblies and had to return them and buy the hole hub assembly because the race for the bearing is machined into the hub. They told me I must have 94 hubs being a early built 95.
