Alright.. heres what I got... luckily with the help of some caring family members I MAY be getting a new crate motor(I've insisted I can find a gently used on here on the forums for a fair price, they want something with 0 miles)

I've looked up on dsmgraveyard and sent them an email, but figured I'd get as much info as I can

I am eventually definently going turbo- but don't have the funds and wont be able to convince the fam of buying a new engine AND items to go turbo (tuning device, injectors.. manifolds etc. ) so please keep in mind the fact that I am staying naturally aspirated for now !

I want an engine that I will not have to swap trannies or anything else- simply drop the blown out- swap the new shiny in.

I am looking at the stock rebuilt crate engine - with the 6 bolt block and oil squirters built it.. my worries about my future turbo plan is the compression - am I able to run a "turbo-ready" engine at a lower compression while it has no turbo ?

What would be the best options while selecting an engine that would save me from having too much work done down the road ?

Please give as much input as I will be checking this thread often!

Lol, did you do the little tests that give you hints? Oil pan, exhaust mani studs etc? Though I had a 6 bolt too, but I Just missed the mark being a 92.5, being a 94, it would have to have been a swap. I own a 6 bolt now and I can see the differences now, one being the oil filter being like 5x the size of the 7 bolt LOL.

Ahh okay I was under the impression all or most 1st gens have 6 bolts.. and I pulled the VC and honestly everything looked fine... I've yet to do much to it because im very limited on tools, so im just waiting to get her in a shop.

And I was hoping I wasnt the only one that thought I had a abnormally small oil filter LOL

It's us 1990 to early 1992 that have the 6 bolt motors. We're just heavier and beefier than the lighter 7 bolt variety, but in a turbo option, the 7 bolt gained 15 more HP than the 6 bolt in stock form due to a slightly higher compression, quicker spooling turbo and faster air flow through the intake to make that jump. It was designed for the new 2G body style that was 300 lbs heavier than the 1G before it.

NAPA Gold 1381 oil filter are the ones to use with our DSM's .. made by WIX.

Not that all small. If you're comparing this filter to an old Chev or Ford 'coffee can' sized filter, yes, then we are small in comparison.
