Hello guys. Need some advice. I am looking at a 1995 Talon Tsi AWD. It has 113k miles on it. Here is the problem. When you drive it, it shift through first, second and in to 3rd. Its an auto. After 3rd, it gets to 3500 rpm, will not shift into high gear. The car just shuts off. The motor sounds great. Any ideas? I will be getting it for a good price. What is everyones thoughts on possible issues? I am thinking end clutch but that should not cut the car off would it. Thanks for advice.

Shuts off

It acts like it wants to shift, its got a new turbo in it. I am on the fence about it.

Anyone got any ideas?

I considered it being in limp mode, but if it was in limp it wouldn't go through 1st, 2nd and 3rd would it? I know I could be buying a lemon but having more knowledge going into the sale will certainly help me out. I pulled codes and all it shown was an egr issue, nothing to do with the transmission.

IMO I would walk away. I want a car that is mechanically sound, then I fall in love with it. But, if you have been looking for a while and you really want the car and can fix what's wrong with it then take it. It's just the unknown that I don't like. Unless you can get it on the cheap, if not keep it moving
