My CEL is on, SRS light too for that matter, but I guess the real issue is that when the tester at autozone (or any other brand kind of tester for that matter) is plugged in, the tester reads nothing! almost as if there is no power to the OBDII port! - where do I beggin? previous owner was a definite ricer, blue neons and crazy wiring all over the car, how can I can I check if a cable has been rerouted or cut somewhere? or is there a fuse that is assigned for the OBDII? any help is appreciated, THX!!!

follow the obd port wiring to the ecu. and get back to us. also, look at the plugs them selves. Make sure none of the wires pull out of the back of the plug. But be careful not to pull too hard And look into the plugs. (you would be surprised how those things can corrode with no water....)

Try:

1.) Wiggling the connector/plug.

2.) Isn't there a fuse for the OBD2 circuit? I think the radio is on it too. So does your radio work? Check the fuse

okay, jiggling it did nothing, followed all cables and everything seems fine... now when i did this i didn't have my radio in yet (i bought this recently and purchased a radio since it didn't have one but hadn't installed it) so... i ignored the OBDII thing and went ahead and installed my radio and it didn't work! so i looked at the fuses and the radio one was blown, replaced immediately and radio works; my fuse box is a little weathered so i couldn't quite read if that same fuse is or isn't for the port but i will borrow the tester from my friend again to try it now that i have fixed the fuse for the radio, that may have been the problem all along! :hmm: - ill keep you guys posted, should be replying by this evening... thanks for the suggestions guys, love the site and get A LOT of really useful info for my DSM. :thumb:

On the turbo models and I believe the N/T as well pin #16 should have 12v+ and pins #4 and 5 should be ground. You have to look really closely but they are numbered.

Try using a paper clip and a test light to check em. If you have power and grounds your OBDII scanner is having issues.

Is it a generic code reader or an actual scan tool that reads datastream? If its just a plan jane code reader it should work. Sometimes the scantools that mechanics and dealerships use you may have to play with the year etc. Try like a 97 or a 95 eclipse or talon. My 95 TSI has to be read as a 96 GST or it says communication error.
