Hey guys

I need help badly. I have a 99 eclipse GS. Its a slowamatic. My question is that i had missfire in my cylinders 1 and 4, so i replaced my ignition coil, plugs and plugwires. I put factory plugs back in so its not that. I have a AEM CAI, Greddy Header, and a 2.25 custom cat back. People always say that my car sounds like it has cam's because it make that chug chug sound like cars with cams, but i dont have CAMS! I know my car should be dog slow but i feel like its so out of tune its rediculus! I raced my friends Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.6L and he keeps up with me! Hes automatic to. My friend has a v6 firebird 5 speed with exhaust and from the stop he destroys me, but if we start from a roll in third gear i keep up with him. Now i know my car is not and never will be fast, i just think it should be running smoother and a lil quicker then what it is. maybe im wrong. Im not trying to make a race car its just my daily driver i just think something is out of tune. If anyone has some suggestions please help!
 
I just got my timing belt changed and Mitsubishi dealer didnt say anything about jumped timing. I only run 83 octane gas to LOL! should i run the good stuff? does it make that much difference? Also would mitsu tell me if i jumped timing?
 
Ops i ment 87 octane! LOL! god my brains not working tonight. anyway do most of you run 93 octance? if so would it improve my performance that much or is it not worth the money? They didnt mess the timing up because it runs the same as it did before i had the timing belt changed. If i wanted to put a AFX underdrive pulley on do i have to take the timing belt back off?
 
Gas prices these days, shoot im with 87 until it comes down .50 cents. you dont have to remove the t-belt to install a underdrive crank pulley, just the old crank pulley, dunno what up with your car man :confused:
 
I mean i know its just a fkn slow car but i didnt think it should be that damn bad. Also i dont understand why it chuges like i have cams, when all i have is intake, header and exhaust. Anybody else that has those mods have the same problem as me? I mean with the chuge sound like you have cams? Could my Air Fuel ratio be off?

Heh heh, thats the damn truth. If you dont like the car and think its that slow, why dont you just get rid of it, and get a Trans Am or whatever like your friend?

I ran 93 octane a couple of times and actual the car ran better with 89 octane. 87 is rare around here, but 89 seems to give me the best gas mileage and the car runs the best on it.
 
What do you mean? What was the difference? Ive been running 93 in this car since I bought it, and now dont really have a choice since Im spraying it, but Im just curious.

Get a vacume tester and check the vacume if it is low and jumps about 1-2 psi it could very well be that you timming belt was incorectly installed. This happened to me and looking through the little timming cover acsess plate at the marks dont work to good you need to remove the whole cover and use a strait edge beleive me i know what im talking agout i just did this last month and now my car purs like a kittlen till i give it some gas then it sounds like a swarm of giant bees

I was looking through the eclipse book that came with the car, It says the car has optimal performance with 87 octane for non turbos and 93 for turbo owners.Go with what the designers say stick with the 87 octane, also it said no ethanol based fuels but aren't all gas now enriched with ethanol??
