I bought a cop set up for my talon and realized that there aren't a lot of diagrams for a 90 cop set up. I found one on google but I am really bad with reading them. If some one has pics of how they wired their 90 tsi for a cop set up it'd be greatly appreciated. But anyways here is the diagram I found.

Sorry but not a single one of those links is for a 90 dsm all are for 91-2g. The 1990 uses a 4 wire connector instead of three, from what I understand its for the tacho. In the diagram I threw in with my post it shows both 3 and 4 wire connectors. So am I supposed to cut the 4 wire connector from my coil and solder it to the 3 wire connector that comes with the coil on plugs set up, and then run that remaining wire to my 4th coil? This is where I am getting confused.

Ok, how about this, or this.

Read Post #5"the 4th wire (white) on the 90 model is for your tach. The other 3 wires are the same as the 91-94. I've been building these kits for around 3 years now and I have never seen a diagram like that one before. I've never seen 1 & 3 and 2 & 4 ran in series together and not sure that it would work anyway because of the waste spark design. The factory coil is designed for 1 & 4 and 2 & 3 to work together."

I'm more less wondering what am I supposed to do with that last wire, I know what it's for. But where does it go. Or do I just leave it cut... Seems hack..

Also that first link does not actually show a diagram, and the second link is for a 91 again... Thanks for your effort though honestly.

I don't have a 1990, but according to this, you leave the 4th wire disconnected, unless you're connecting it to a tach.

The fourth wire from the 1990 coil pack is a tach driver output that pulses whenever either of the two coils inside it fires.

Here's the color coding on the wires from the coil, if it will help:

Yellow / Blue & Yellow / Green : Spark inputs
White: Tach output
Black / White: 12V power

Try wiring as shown on the pic below...

Actually I think I figured it out on my own, I am going to need a tach adapter and other then that it will get wired the same as a 91 would. The above diagram cannot be correct because we use a waste spark system where cyl 1 and 4 fire at the same time and 2 and 3 fire together as well. The first one does show me how I am to wire In a tach adapter though so that does help a little, although stm shows it wired differently on their site.

Once I get all the correct parts to install this I will make a proper how to so this can be settled I had a hell of a time looking for good info. Thanks guys for trying to help out, this is why I love the dsm community.

hmm, i just pm'd that to some one yesterday said they couldn't find it googling... LOL did you get it working?

you don't need a tach adapter honestly unless you're pulling from an MSD box or something, just get an ignition modeule that has teh pin for tachoutput and wire it off tha.. I was talked into an adapter wheni wnt stand alone on my car but i've hooked directly to that white wire from the transistor module and had just as reliable of a tach signal... Running a tach adapter you also don't want to pull from MSD signal if you can help it or you'll get the tach that cuts out and kicks back in at certain RPM's unless you wire it bypassing the ignition system all together and pull from the crank

Wiring COP is not hard at all, just set the ignior/transistor up where you split the outputs (pull to ground triggers) to split to the same cylinders as the oEm system did by having a two post coil, 1 & 3 and 2& 4

But if I were to cut the tach wire wouldn't I loose my rpm gauge function? This whole thing is confusing the hell out of me LOL thanks for trying to help man, I just don't want to loose any functions of my car.

Didn't ask for performance gain I am we'll aware of how they operate. I asked about the 4th wire, the tach wire. I want to know what to do with it. Please post in relivence to the question at hand or not at all.

Sorry. theres just a lot of people on here that think theres a gain in performance when there isnt and maybe if you didnt know and some one told you there wasnt you could save so money by not switching to it.
