help! i had the ujoints replaced but the front one failed, it is partially together, but a cap came off and I lost some needle bearings.

I need to know how to remove the driveline without raising the car and with few tools. i want drive it in fwd mode to get home.

It is the front ujoints that failed. i just want to take off front driveline, and drive home.

I am stranded. i am typing this on my t-mobile dash. help!

Get AAA.

Use your phone to call someone with tools to help you.

I'd recommend using the car jack, but that would be super dangerous, and if you don't have tools, pointless.

Just have AAA tow the car. Its much safer and you don't need to rush when you fix your car.

i have some tools! i don't hae aaa. please someone that knows how to remove the front part of the driveshift help me.
i spent my last friggn dime getting it fixed.

the tow is a last resort.
I'm parked in the shade.
I have much more time then money.

I need REAL HELP. nothing else, please

Like I said, use the jack that came with the car and take it out. Stuff a sock into the output shaft so it doesn't all leak out, then pray you don't break it.

Honestly, telling you to get a tow IS real help. A $50 tow is much less expensive than a broken transmission or differential if you're going to be driving it far.

well:

driving with driveline disconnected, it does not cause damage like it would with it connected with only front or rear tires on ground, is my undrstanding.

i need to know. how do you remove the front driveline? is it only held on by the ujoints in the yolk, no bolts? that is my perception thus far.

so i just take the circlips off, then pound it thru?

the front one was kind of easier as it was broken

hey howd ya make out with this?

I may be wrong but with the rear driveline disconnected and therefore no load on the transfercase output shaft, Im pretty sure the car will just sit there spinning only that shaft. Either way its a REALLY bad idea to drive with it disconnected as you will loose all your transfer case fluid very fast, causing it to seize! I happen to know a tranfer case is usually more expensive then a 50 dollar tow

It is a one piece driveshaft. Yes there is a carrier beairng in the center but good luck pulling it apart by hand. There are two bolts holding the carrier bearing and four holding the rear shaft to the diff, remove them to drop the whole shaft.

sure i can't just remove the front drive shaft? i thought it is a 3 piece, there are 3 ujoints holding it together.

if i am successful at removing it, could i drive 15 miles without the yolk in the tranfer case falling out?

you sure - have to pull the carrier bearings? what size wrench? If you aren't sure, no prob i will find out when I'm down there.

Hey look, there's a VFAQ!

http://www.plymouthlaser.com/dshaft.htm

Again, I can not recommend driving it with that hole open. I wouldn't even recommend someone to take the drive shaft out and not refill the thing, let alone letting the center diff spin. I can not see the splined yolk sitting in there, there's no reason for it to do so, especially not at the rev's it'll be going at.

I'll stop bugging you now, you've been warned. The VFAQ should give you more than enough info on how to do whatever you want.

tow truck is on the way...i swear i thought that awd to fwd was a quck ez thing but since nobody here has done it, i will just tow it for now....

battery getting low on my dash phone and it getting dark.....

i will read the vfaq on dash while I wait..

- have a little samsung flip phone i can throw my simply in the battery is charged on it.

By the way, I was broken down in Bill Gate's neighborhood, about a mile from his place. And he never even offered me a ride! What a bastard! LOL j/k Yeah seriously I was right off of 520 in the Medina neighborhood near Bellevue/Kirkland. Well the u-joint cap came off when I was on 520 in heavy traffic. I limped (like 10MPH) to the shoulder and got off the exit.

So anyway I found out you all were right; you have to make further modifications to the drive train in order to drive the AWD car with no driveline in a "Fwd Mode". Otherwise, the VC would get frid in the tranny.

So thanks again everyone for provding your assitance when I was broken down on the road in Bill Gate's neighborhood and he didn''t even offer me a ride or lemonade or nothin :(

Edit: incidentally; do we still have a way for giving people rep points or whatever in thanks and such? I was trying to find out how to do it, not sure...I'll keep looking when I get a minute.

Ya good call cause you would have wasted your time taking out you driveline just to find out that you car wouldnt have even moved without the driveline hooked up.

Good thing you towed it. If Im not mistaken you cant drive it in "FWD" mode like that unless you have a welded center diff. I dont think the car would have moved like the others said.

you can drive the car in fwd mode ,because I did it last week when my transfer case seized up . you can take the t case off and unbolt the drive shaft from the rear end .takes me about 25 min,s . providing you have the needed tools .:)
