Hey whats going on just a girl needing some quick help. This is my first time being on any forum so I'm giving it a go. I just picked up a 99 DSM GST Auto and I am looking to do a few things.

First of all I want my BOV to be louder. So I figure picking up a BOV should work and bolt directly on without further modification?
Second I am guessing it would also help to buy (CAI): 2G DSM Injen Intake System - 2G DSM Air Intake Pipes - 2G 95-99 - Air Intakes - DSMparts.com
this allows me to hook the BOV directly to the BOV dump tube?

So someone please tell me if I can get away with JUST buying a blow off valve and a CAI and everything work fine? I have worked plenty on cars, just new to the Turbo setup. If anyone can please point me in the direction of what to buy and where to get it just please do so. Money is not a worry I just need to get some mods on. lets make this quick and simple :thumb: thank you.

Just get an ebay intake for roughly $35 and a 1g bov. Dejon all your paying for is a name.

Hmmm why a 1g. This sounds stupid but could you send me a link to the 2 parts you would recommend. The reason I ask about a 1g is that don't I have a 2g car. Sorry I have been reading as much as possible and it all seems like a blur at the moment.

Getting ready to tint my windows, slap on some new wheels, and I want it to sound sick along with all the other things I plan on doing.

A 1g will hold plenty of boost for your application or you can have it crushed to hold even more. The 2g bov's are made of plastic and tend to leak at around 13 psi or so. And your profile says its a 99 gst so yes that is a 2g car. 90-94 are 1g and 95-99 are a 2g.

Also like a moron I forgot to mention. The 1g bov would require a new Upper intercooler pipe. Not just an intake. As I forgot to mention sorry about that. Just a little slow today.

No BOV will just bolt right up to a stock UICP. You can look through the vendor list right here on Tuners and find all the information you are looking for. Or what the best recommendations are. Just by using the search feature.

Hey thanks, trust me i have been searching... this whole turbo thing is just new to me

If you want your car to be loud (we have a name for those kind of people), then the easiest ways are to just up the intake. That's your first sound restrictor right there. Then the BOV. Like others have stated before me, no common BOVs will bolt up to the stock pipe. However, you can get an adapter flange for the type of bov you are looking for. Most popular are Greddy's. Heard they make a nice "whoosh" sound. FYI, Forge Motorsports makes some pretty nice BOVs. They do have one that will bolt up to the stock 2g UICP. I run one and will never run anything else. If you just want your car to be loud and obnoxious, get an exhaust, put in an open dump tube, change out the stock intercooler piping and you're pretty much set I believe.

Man I am confused LOL. So far I think I need this:

UIP 2gB (upper intercooler s pipe)
CAI with the dump valve so It does not go atmosphere
BOV such as the one from Forge Motorsports.

Seriously get a 1g bov and get the adapter for it through slowboyracing.com....sounds so good and at low boost it sounds like paul walkers eclipse in fast in the furious. Kinda like a Greddy Type S. do the crush mod to it and you cant go wrong. go with the ebay intake and 1g bov. get a halman mbc. get a boost gauge and exhaust. turn up the boost to about 12psi and you should be sitting tight for awhile. until you really want to upgrade. i just went with 550cc injectors, evo 3 16g turbo, 190lph walbro fp. and running at about 17psi with a tune. get me where im going better. lets just say my buddies evo 8 has a hard time keeping up and it makes me feel better. haha. good luck. im in a hurry so let me know if you need anything.

Ha no I am not going the ricer route and trying to make it the most loud and obnoxious thing on the market. Man I am confused LOL. So far I think I need this:

UIP 2gB (upper intercooler s pipe)
CAI with the dump valve so It does not go atmosphere
BOV such as the one from Forge Motorsports.

If you read some more on CAI's, you'll realize there are no vendors that make that. Why? Because where you would route a CAI which is the passenger opening next to the foglight, you'll find our teeny tiny intercooler in the way. If you further search, you'll realize in order to get a true CAI down there, you need to get a FMIC or eliminate the SMIC altogether and run water injection.

You are right crimson I mean an intake. I know the difference, its just force of habit to say CAI. I need to start saying intake... I'm sorry, I know what it means though.

Ummdsmwhat thank you so much. Your post really helped. I'm going to start ordering stuff here in a few... so excited.

+1 on this whole thing minus the boost controller. honestly, the stock system is close to max as-is (best safe boosted on a stock turbo 16psi?) and though it is an effective mod, it may be for the future more than what you're running now or looking towards now. Instead, bump ## horses and boost by following this: Tech Guide: 2G 4G63t Upgrades: Stage 0 Power - DSMtuners Stage 7 would push ## boost by about 2 psi. it actually works and is completely safe. personally, i think doing all the touch-up work on the car makes a huge difference.

mb, just my .02:dsm:

Edit: or even get the boost controller and all that stuff just make sure u do the little things, you'll be happy you did.

Plan your upgrade path carefully and install one step at a time working out any problems that occur. Throwing a bunch of parts at your car all at once can be frustrating; not knowing what you did last that caused a problem. Make sure your last mod is working before you go to the next one. Anything you do to modify a car will affect other systems. Increasing boost is a perfect example. That modification alone changes everything in the fuel system and can easily stress it beyond it's design capabilities. Take your time and have FUN.

Welcome. Being new to DSM's can be a bit much for some. Just stay with it and you'll get the hang of what you'll need to know.

Now from what I have read, what you want are the basics for the intake system. So this is going to consist of a intake pipe with filter to turbo, and then from our SMIC (side mount intercooler) to the throttle body along with a new blow off valve.

Dejon Tool is going to have some pretty good examples for what you want. Once you open that page, on the left hand side, go to "2nd Generation/Stage Mods & Kits". From there, the "Advanced 2g DSM Intake & Intercooler Piping Kits" option for the factory MAS (mass airflow sensor) is exactly what you are looking for minus the blow off valve. (Looks like this). Albeit, Dejon Tool is some pretty exspensive stuff, if you want it to be simple to order everything from a place, this is it. You can also piece this together with components from other manufactures as well.

As for the BOV (Blow off valve), a simple 1G should suffice and from the few that I have heard, sound pretty nice. You can check the classifieds here on DSMTuners for them, or you can also find them from some of our supporting vendors. Such as Street Tuned Motorsports who have them for sale.

With all that being said though, the thing you really need to take care of first, is ANY and ALL maintenance. All fluids in the car, timing belt (especially if you don't know when it was last changed), new spark plugs (wires probably too), Vacuum lines depending on the current ones condition, and anything else that you can think of. These cars can go like stink, but if you have it on jack stands due to negligence, it's not going anywhere fast. Good luck, and always remember we do this for fun :D.

Hey thanks everyone who helped me out in this newB thread. I know exactly the route I want to take. I appreciate all of your helpful suggestions, they are just what I wanted. Soon as I do it up I will be posting pictures :).

I would have bought the fp intake with the recirculating adapter, a decent FMIC, a 1g BOV, and a kn air filter, and adapter for the intake and called it a day. Either way, your going to a FMIC, so why not just do it in one shot.

Taylor, your questions are asked every time someone new buys a DSM. That's why we have our Tuning Guides on the first page.
If you're still confused after reading them -it'll run you about $4000 to get finished- then ask specific questions as you go along.
