Just installed a mbc its a ball and spring type with a bleeder valve as well. My problem is that it boost to 16psi then drops and pretty much holds at 13.

Let go through how I hooked everything up I wasn’t exactly sure, remove bcs, capped off nipple on intake pipe and nipple on turbo housing, then I put a tee connection into hose going from intake mani to bov and connected the mbc between the tee and the wastegate actuator. To make sure I have the bov the right way the hose coming off the intake mani would connect to the pressure side of the system, if you get what I’m saying here.

Any tips of preventing this initial spike.
Boost leak??

If your still running with the stock t-25 turbo, it'll do that. Almost everyone I know that turned up the boost on those turbos can't hold much more than 12psi over 5500 rpm. Upgrade to a real turbo for a quick fix :D But if you want to stay stock, just live with it. Another possible problem could be if you have the stock 2g BOV which leaks above 12psi as well. I upgraded to a 1g and the boost went up to 15psi without a boost controller on the stock t-25.

The turbo was running strong and holding at 15psi before the I did the mbc install. With the mbc I turned it down to 13psi but it will always go up to 16psi now and then drop to the mbc setting. I do already have a 1g bov as well. Could a boost leak cause these symptoms, I've pressurized the intake system and can't hear any leaks. Has anyone had similar problems that you have overcome, what was the problem?

Yea, I've heard that people with ball and spring MBCs have problems with boost spike...ie boost shooting up right away, then settling back down to where boost was supposed to be set at.

How do you know this? Did you have another MBC before this one? I hope you're not relying on the stock boost gauge in the cluster, it's a joke :).

I'm not a total idiot, so yes I do have an after-market boost gauge. The style boost controller I have has both a standard ball and spring adjustment as well as a bleeder valve for fine adjustments. I've found that if I close the bleeder valve completely and only rely on the ball and spring adjustment the boost spike is only around 1 or 2 psi.

Can anyone recommend a good boost controller without spikes that is relatively inexpensive?

I have a Turbo XS that doesn't spike, but I've heard of people that have used it and have had a good spike with it. Also, I find that it whistles a bit under boost. I've heard good things about Hallman MBCs as well as a Joe P mbc. Most I would assume would be on ebay, or maybe someone on the side could help you out. Its also possible to build your own, but since I've never done that, I can't tell ya weather it will spike or not.

the bleeder hole on the body of the mbc is usually 1/32. You can take a 1/16 bit and enlarge the hole. That help on one of my buddys car. good luck
