Help me finish my stroker build

So, long story short. I bought a 6 bolt long block off one of my friends from back home. Well, I saw the car run, it wasn't smoking, and ran great. It ran a 8.62 in the 1/8 a weekend before on a 14b and has given my buddy no problems. Well, my 7 bolt started to crank walk. So, he sold me the short block. I finally got around to taking it apart because I wanted to check the mains and it needed a new oil pan. It looked like someone shot it with a BB gun (he lived down a gravel road). So I thought wow this is absolutely wonderful. I just loaded 450 bucks into a short block that had a blown head gasket and metal shards everywhere. But wait, it gets better. I took the girdle caps off, and found this...

Well, in good news, the mains were fine. It was only on the girdle bearings where things went south.

So, I started looking for parts. One of my other dsm friends from back home has a pretty sick 35r GST. He said he has a stroker kit that he would sell me. It's for a 6 bolt. It comes with a new 2.4 crank, ACL race bearings, 1g big rods, and .20 over Wiseco 1400HD pistons. He is selling all that to me brand new, for an absolute steal. He lost steam in his dsm and started working more, so he doesn't have time for it, and is essentially liquidating his parts. So, with that being said. I just got my hands on a HX40, and I am planning on using that with the stroker kit. But, I don't know how much I trust these rods. What would you guys recommend for a better rod? I'm kind of confused as to which ones to look for. Rods for a 2.4, or rods for a 6 bolt dsm? Since they are 1g rods, I assume any 1g 6 bolt rod would work, but I wanted to check first and make sure.

obvoiusly aftermarket is the way to go for peice of mind. manley h beam rods i see alot of people use for the stroker motors. but i think the stock rods can handle quite a bit of power also im not excatly sure on how much, i want to say around 600hp.
 
Yeah, I've herd that 5-600hp is the threshold of those rods. I just don't want to have to rebuild it again due to rod failure or anything like that anytime soon.
 
For rods I'd go H-beam. Stock 6-bolt rods are strong, but forged rods are stronger.

Is the 2.4 crank for a 6-bolt? A 7-bolt 4g64 crank won't fit in a 6-bolt block, at least not without serious modification. The pistons need to be stroker pistons to be used in your 4g63 block.
 
Yeah, it is a 6 bolt 2.4 crank. The pistons are .20 over. I texted my buddy and asked if he'd send me some pictures of everything but he hasn't gotten back to me yet. So, that being said, I'm assuming with the 2.4 crank, I can use regular 6 bolt rods? I'd like to get a set of Eagle rods, or the Manly H beams like stated earlier. But the only thing with that, is I'd have to get all new bearings for it too, and this entire kit already comes with the bearings for the rods.
 
The rods don't determine the bearing size, the crank does. Eagle, Manley, etc rods are all made to use a stock sized bearing. If the crank has been polished or cut you will need thicker bearings. You could use stock rods, but it will take some work to install the pistons since they were meant for a full floating forged rod, not a press fit stock rod. It would be kind of a waste IMO.

The pistons need to have 6mm higher wrist pins for the rotating assembly to work in a 4g63.

Why is that?

The 4g64 crank has 12mm more throw (6 up and 6 down) so the block is 6mm taller. In order to compensate for the extra 6mm throw up top you need a 6mm shorter piston.
 
Actually it's 6mm higher. It's needed because the stroker crank has a 100mm stroke, and stick is 88. So, in the same block, the piston will move 6mm higher, and 6mm lower. To keep the piston from smashing into the head, the pin is moved 6mm higher in the piston.

Your pistons need to be 6mm shorter which is done by moving the wrist pin higher.
 
To simply answer your original question, a 6 Bolt 2.3 consists of the following parts.
6-Bolt 2.0 block
6-Bolt 100mm stroke crank
6-Bolt Stroker pistons, 6mm offset
Regular 6-Bolt rods

And as stated the stock ones can handle decent power but aftermarket are stronger and easier to mate to the pistons.
 
Ok I see what you're saying. Well, I am assuming that the piston set is already set to go for this, because I was told that it will be a drop in affair. It was also brought to my attention that this will not be a 2.4, and that it will be a 2.3 stroker kit. Interesting.

That's because a 2.4 isn't a stroker, it's a stock Mitsubishi 4G64 block. If you want 2.4L of displacement then you have two options, 1. get a 6 bolt G4CS block from a Hyundai or 2. get a 7 bolt Mitsubishi 4G64 block. Seeing you supposedly already have parts for a 6 bolt 2.3L stroker I'll assume you'll do neither.

I would look up the part number or measure them first to make sure. If you can't find standard piston measurements, particularly wrist pin to top, just let me know.

Yes, your engine will end up with 2.3L of displacement due to bore size. You'll be using 85.5mm pistons with a 100mm crank, so you end up with 2296cc, or 2.3 in engine terms. The 4g64 uses 86.5mm pistons with a 100mm crank which equals 2350cc, or 2.4L in engine terms. If you installed 86.5mm pistons, you would technically have a 2.4L engine.

However, it would still be a "2.4 stroker" and not a 4g64.
