Look ,My son has switched fro a Civic to 1st Gen 93 GS. He now ahs this Turbo thing in his brain.. His friend has a SRT4 Neon, yes a neon.Well he wants to get a turbo, but I am aginest cause I know his friend has been racing. Well it would take all his savings jsut to get close toa 2G turbo. We found a 2G talon ESI.Looks good runs good. I am fine and feel better about the price and speed temptation. So my point is can you give me something to tell him positive about these 420 motors and getting some more piower(little). I would appreciate it. My son is also getting ready to got to college and only works part time. I am a single parent and he is stubborn.THANKS ..Mike

stick with the 4g63 n/a 420a sucks

tell him he is going to college soon and a turbo car will break ;)

well the 420a is more reliable....not that the 4g63 isn't but it is easier to find a 420A that isn't abused than a 4g63. another reason Insurance, it will be very very high not to mention that he will keep having to fix/mod the car. N/T eclipses/Talons get very good gas mileage as well as decent power, faster/fast as a civic but nothing neck breaking. there are a few reasons. personally if i was him i would still want the 4g63 which is why i had to buy a 1g turbo and a 2g n/t. if he drives a turbo DSM he will be addicted and there will be a less than likely chance of him getting the 420A. good luck with it.

P.S. if that isn't enough look around the forums and you will find boat loads of these "my car is broke and so am i while im in college" threads. that should be enough.

haha good one! ehhh to each his own.

id personally take a 2gnt over a 1gnt any day. better looking. and there are many more NA mod choices, while most R&D for the 4g63 is into parts for the turbo models. 420a's are reliable(not mine  ) he could afford a 1g turbo but i really dont know if i would make one of those my daily drivers, i dont think i would be comfortable with its reliability. all in all the 2gnt is not a bad car and not a bad powerplant at all. lots of mods you can do to it, and they even make turbo kits for it ;)

Dad, did you ever race? What makes you imagine your kid won't?

If you didn't get enough sense pounded into his head before he got a license, it's too late now. He's going to race whatever he can get behind the wheel of. Different people react different ways to power. I never drove my Datsun 2000 as hard as I drove my VW bug. You can just about count on him crashing his first car.

Hey i have my first car still and haven't crashed it :p ...close to two years and still good.....[knock on wood x3]

Iam also a dadIf you think your son is going to race or has been racing embrace it and TAKE him out to the Track and show him that racing is the right and only way to do it and keep it off the street
I wish my dad supported me and would have taken me to the nearest 1320 but that is the past
By doing that you will get to spend time with your son and do a little MALE bonding :thumb:
Before he goes to collage and find's the real problem alcohal NO, NO Iam sorry GIRLS!! OMG!!!!!!!

so maybe your son doesnt street race like his friend??? maybe he'd rather keep it on the track??? maybe he found a turbo that doesnt take all his savings that he worked his a$$ off for? does it take a turbo to street race?, i thought you could street race with anything....my mistake. maybe after you bought your 3rd car he got a little frusterated? anyways Dad, its good to see your a little interested and posting.

well that was from me( his son) and i didnt know he was logged on at the house.. :p ..but anyways my point still stands....i dont thinks its all to fair to to say im gonna street race if i have a turbo....both cars will do at least 130mph its just one does it a little faster.....oh well...looks like im getting the ESI

Well, here's the best perspective I can give you on this. The turbo car *IS* more fun to drive, and though it is also faster... if he's going to race, he'll race a non turbo just as much as he will his turbo... however, if he wants this turbo so bad, buying a NT now isn't a good idea, because he's going to want to try and turbocharge it... a turbo kit costs $3000 or so once you get down to the extra parts you need to put on, and a 1G turbo car will gost about $1000-2000 if you look around for a while... a 2G turbo can go anywhere from $2000-10,000 depending on the model, year, milage, condition, etc... if you're concerned about him being safe, a 1g AWD will handle better than a FWD, which will probably keep him on the road better... but no matter what kind of car he gets, if he drives it hard, it's going to break. That's the bottom line,, and if it breaks, he's going to have to get money to fix it... if I were you, I would suggest to keep the N/T... fix it up, keep it maintained... drive it as a commuter/daily driver... ONCE he has some money together he should start looking around for a 1G Turbo AWD to work on and race at the track... that way, when it breaks, he's still got another car that works. That's the most financially sound idea I can give ya... turbo cars break... it's not because they're not reliable, it's because people abuse them.

Waitta second don't you have a GS already? If you have that, and it runs well, then why go buy another N/T car? Save your money and keep an eye on DSMtrader, ebay, and the tuners classifieds... you'll find a nice turbo that you can buy later... there's nothing wrong with owning 2 cars... and when one breaks, you're not screwed.

dude, get an N/T first. Almost everyone crashes their first car. Don't be that guy that takes another sweet 4g63t off the road and into a wrecking yard.

if he's going to college and your a single parent, i would suggest a2gnt over a 1gnt.the reasons are basicly that there are less miles and abuse on the 2gs then the 1g's.besides girls dig the 2g's waaaaaaaaayyyy better than the 1g.the 2gnt are fun little cars, and the turbo 2g gst/gsx is the car i'm striving to get next, but i don't have to pay for all the college expenses and stuff. and maintaining a 2gnt will cost you a lot less than a turbo car.
once you have the dsm bug it's hard to get rid of.but the track idea is definatly very good. used to go to the steet races, but ever since i saw a brand new 350z flip around because of a few assholes being disorganized and rude he almost killed a shit load of people.i don't go anymore.racing is fun and addictive, together with adrenailine, innexpirience, and fast little cars, their a deadly combination.

I know he is reading now and well didn't think of that. But I have had MANY hot an fast cars. I know sitting in a 4 cylinder 150hp car and sitting in a 4cyl 220hp car can cause you to believe you are suppose to run hard. Yes..been there done that..Its about being a parent and not being mean. Yes i will admit I have jumped around on cars but I am also 49 years old and he has the rest of his life. I am just trying to keep him around . The NT cars to me are just as cool as the Turbo. (Its that crazy SWOSH noise he likes)Yes I just bought a Turbo Conquest but its not cause of the Turbo but cause its SOOO different and the body style. Thanks for your input and I appreciate the help. I'll leave it up to him to get the 2g or keep the 1g. The 2g Talon is a sharpe car and everyone I mean everyone (like Mustangs)has Eclispe's around here. Not many Talons fixed up. Good site Its alot like the Starion /Conquest site we have but bigger. THANKS! Mike
