I forgot to re-torque my head when I installed it on my new motor.

I had it torqued to specs and dorve it around for about 50 miles or so and started smokeing out blue and white smoke, and I got coolant in my oil( like a lown head gasket)

My question is can I just re-torque my head and flush out my oil and coolant and everything be ok?

It's been about 300 miles since I've done my head and I haven't re-torqued it yet. I heard that you're supposed to do it between 1,000-1,500. So, that may not be your problem. What did you torque it down to in the first place?

I went through and did the five step process that the book said to do
58lbs
loosen
15lbs
1/4 turn
1/4 turn

that's about right. You can't really go wrong by doing the process over again. I'm going to assume that you are using stock headbolts? If you are, then that is the correct process to torque the head. Also, did you use the correct sequence for torqueing the head? (I mean by going inside out?). If you are using ARP headstuds, then you will need to retorque them differently.

I am going to re-torqu them right now and do another compression test I will get back to you with the results in twewnty minutes

just re-torqued my head and did a compression test it came out to 140-120-170-120

the test I did before I re-torqued the head was 115-100-120-130

so let me know if you think it the head gasket
and on other thing is the person that torque down my head swithes one and two around in the sequence and did it pretty much backwards I found out today

I believe there is only one way to torque a head down, and if it is not done correctly it will be messed up and malfunction. My autos teacher in High School made a big deal about torqueing down things in the right sequence otherwise you get problems in the end.

I know this but he told me he did it correctly just like the book said (so called race car mechanic) then just today he said he didn't follow it to a Tee.

so did I ruin any thing or do I just need to replace the head gasket?
