toronto,
I was excelerating from 1 to 2nd and the rpm gauge droped to zero and does nothing. car turns over great and timing marks are all perfect. the timing belt was just done. The car is a 95 talon awd. its got a lot of stuff done to it like br-57 turbo and crower stage 2 cams...

I also just replaced the cam sensor Im thinking its the lower crank sensor? could that be? since its not picking up the rpm the engine is turning?

the car has a 2g 7 bolt still in it.. you help would be greatly appreaciated. thanks.

You've verified timing...Do you have fuel, spark, or compression?

Vauge questions usually equal vauge diagnosis.............

Refer here and take care of some of the basics, if you haven't already

:)

sorry.. yes compression is perfect.. valve timing is correct. and i havnt checked fuel yet. but im sure its fine.. as when it happend the rpm gauge droped to 0. when the engine was still turning over. Like when i was coasting when it died.. the engine was turing over but the tach was at 0. the car cranks fine. but just wont fire.. im going to check it more tomorow. but is there a way to test the crank sensor?

You can use an osclloscope to check the waveform if you like. I recently had a n/t eclipse not sparking and found the timing belt off well, let's say more than one tooth.

Put it back and it ran.

Just a thought.

You said the tach doesn't move while cranking? Or did I misread that?
If the tach isn't moving, it could be an ECU problem.

Other than that....Does the car start (or try to start) with starter fluid in the cylinders?

Quite possibly an electrical problem of some sort, especially since the car just "died" suddenly like that. Check spark, and if it's no good, check the coilpack, related relays, and PCM. Also, check fuses and grounds, of course.

all fuses good.. and was running excellent 5 seconds before it died,, never hesitated or anything just seemed like i turned the key off..

and no the tach just reads 0 even when cranking and the the engine shut off. i coasted then let the clutch out and turned the engine over and it still read 0. I dont think its the ecu.. . ive never had a problem... the ecu still turns on fine as i have a safc and all the lights on the dash come on fine

Im still thinking the crank angle sensor went. I did just replace the cam angle sensor.

The engine doesent try to start at all... just cranks.. just like it would if you disconected the coil pack to do a comp test.. but all conections are good...and no blown fuses..

I'd still pull it and have a look. The fact that the tach doesn't move while cranking is not good.

So....Have you tested the coil pack?

;)

ok .. is there any way to test with a volt meter/ohmeter? the crank angle sensor? i pulled it ouyt today and all looks good.. is there any way to test the ignighter too? i did try a new coil and that still didnt work. Im stumped on this one.. please any suggestions on what to do... would be great.

car didnt do any abnormal things before it died just seemed like the key was turned off.

Also the plugs to the cam and crank angle sensor do have voltage when key is turned on. as well the coils and igniter.

ok it seems like its the ignighter (transistor) i got the crank angle sensor and the transistor tested to day. and the transistor failed. so I guess i need a new one of these.

my next question is are the 95 and 91-94 transistors the same?
