help checking the isc

My car will not idle at all right now, I am going through the steps to try to figure out what the hell is wrong. I am trying to test the isc ohms. Do I test the actual isc male pins or the female connector wire? I tried to get a reading from the male pins and I get 0 on my digital multimeter. Any ideas?

also, can i take the battery out to test the pins or does it need to be left in? I am having a hell of a time getting to the male pins on the isc
