checking the cam postion sensor???

is there anyway i can check the cam postion sensor.....i have spark fuel and air but it wont run it just turns over and it back fired threw the intake soo i know somthing is off on the timeing but the motor is in time.......please help
 
Take off your timing and make sure all the marks are lined up correctly.
 
Plug wires not crossed? Backfiring is an indication of such. Give more specifics as to what was done or when this started.
