Hello I have a 97 eclipse gsx and ran into some ecu problem. I ordered a new ecu and I think they sent me the wrong one ### its the metal housing and the model number says it came off a 98 Eclipse so any ways I tried it anyways just to see if it would work when I plugged it in and turned the key to the on position the radiator fans turned on then when I tried to start it all I heard was something spooling it sounded like the turbo spooling but with the engine not on i know it cant be that but I get nothing else so I then tried putting the old ecu on which I also is a 98 ecu but it's a flashable one that I know worked at one point and it did the same thing so does anyone know what might be the problem nothing was done in the engine bay at all and the car is pretty much stock aside from some bolt ons does anyone know what the problem is or where I should start

That turbo sound is probably your starter spinning but not engaging the flywheel. Either the bendix is shot in the starter or some teeth are missing on the flywheel. Use a breaker bar and turn the engine over a few degrees and try and start it again. If that doesn't work, pull the starter and check it out.
