Help!! Car wont start after bad overheat

Well I need a little help getting my car started. I cant seem to figure out why it wont start. I over heated the car a week ago really bad. So bad that I was running it without coolant for miles. I didn't know the car was over heating because it was 2 am in the morning and my temp gauge was not working at that moment. Well I tore the head off and put on a new head gasket. Timing is dead on, I have fuel and spark. By the way its a 2g gsx with a 6 bolt swap. Everything is wired up right and I have new spark plugs. The engine will crank over, but I have to keep cranking and finally I will get a loud backfire. I checked my power transistor on a buddies car and works fine. By the way I have a c.o.p. set up on my car. I did a leak down test on the engine and was holding at 30% loss @ 18psi. I didn't hear any air escaping or anything like that. I do have a safc. Every time I turn over the engine the safc cuts off and then comes back on once I leave it on all the way. Any input would be great.

I know this is not contributing to helping you solve your problem but I have to say I'm surprised that you didn't warp the block running "without coolant for miles". If you open the rad cap and take a whiff, do you smell gasoline?

No don't smell gasoline. Engine got so hot the valve cover paint was bubbling.

Did you check your head for warping? Have you changed the oil? I know the oil probably has nothing do with the starting, but wow, if you got the valve cover paint to bubble...

yes checked the head and had it decked. Yes oil was changed before the attempt to restart. This is my whip to get to class. Since my car isn't working I have borrow my moms mini van.

Make sure everything is plugged in and that all connections are tight.

Dang, That's scary. check the compression and thermostat?

Since you made the flipping letters bubble you might wanna check surrounding cables for burn marks or even melting together. Good luck.

Yeah I just disconnected all the wires today to check them. Everything is connected right.

Sounds electrical almost. Like it fills up with fuel then fires at the wrong time and just back fires. Id check all wires and crap again and fix your guage

Many times when an engine is overheated the rings are destroyed. It's probably time for a rebuild for you. Check your compression.

Have you tried replacing your CAS ? This could also be a problem.

The same thing happened to mine. It was because I spun the 3rd cylinder barring. Will It start up drive till it gets hot then cut out??

I checked out my cas, tested it on a buddies car and works. Senor for the temp gauge was replaced. I feel its electrical too. The thing is engine wont even start up, it would just backfire.

Your rings have lost tension and you have no compression. The motor's scrapped.

Your right just did a compression test and gauge didn't even move. So I can just pull the rods through the top and hone then re ring it? or do you think there is more damage?

You will not know until your in there and inspecting...
