Hey guys, I've got a 2G Talon TSI AWD. I had the car since 60,000 miles on it and now currently have 82,000. I have a problem however. When I accelerate the car runs perfect, it is when I let off the gas that my car makes a strange noise. Whether it is in gear or rolling to a stop, the car makes a short of whine. I have already changed my harmonice balancer, and yet the car still makes a whine. It sounds as if it is coming from the tranny or T-Case. I haven't replaced the tranny fluid, yet, but will do so this weekend. Does any one have or had this problem before? If so and help would be greatly appericated. Thanks

By the way my car is
1995 TSI AWD
Manual Transmission
bascially stock, except for B&M Shifter

if you rev it with it not in gear and it makes the noise. and has the other symptoms as noted you said, use a mechanics stethoscope and listen to the tranny probably an input shaft bearing. sometimes they can last a long time while makeing noise, sometimes they go out.

input shaft bearings going are more common than crank walk even as much as people hype it up on this site. i have driven quite a few that do the same thing with the noise

i have seen way more eclipse with bad input shaft bearing than with crank walk.

sometimes poeple hear the noise and can't figure it out because when you are in the car it sounds like the t-case or tranny but you aren't sure. when parked rev it hold sometimes it will do it sometimes it won't.

I tried what you said. I left the car in neutral and reved the motor and no sound. Sounds pretty good actually. I took the car for a ride again, and there was that stupid noise. I have noticed however, that in the morning when I first turn on the car it does not make any noise. After a while, or when the car warms up, it starts again, for the whole day. If I find out any more info, I'll let you guys know. Thanks for writing back.

Same with mine. I did some experimenting and found out that its either the BOV or the turbo. Rev the engine with your ear on the intake. you will hear the whine after you let off. I thought it was a boost leak but its real weird.

I don't know if it would either of those two. It sounds more of a gear noise, than a air leak. Maybe the BOV isn't fully closing or staying closed and robbing the motor of air. I'm not sure. But I did order a Turbo XS Bypass valve yesterday, so when I get it in, I'll let yall know.

Uh...if KingAWD is having the same problem I am, which it sounds like he is, I seriously doubt it has anything to do with the BOV or turbo, I know mine is defintiely trans related.

mine only do's it in park sounds like a souped up blower or super charger LOL not sure what it is though but on my vr4 i whined like that for about 2 months before a turbo froze and bent a rod dunno if it had anything to do with the whine though, ohh my talon is a/t if that makes a diff

I called chrysler and the recall has already been preformed. They gave me a date and as to which tech did it. I don't know if it failed again. I'm not leaking fluid. I believe that it is tranny related, since the noise only happens when the car is moving. It might not be the clutch or flywheel, but maybe the gears?? The car only has 83,000 miles on it.

I would say that since the noise is only when the vehicle is moving, it would def. have to be in the drivetrain. Axles, wheel bearings, etc.

Try getting the wheels off the ground and have someone in the car "driving" while u listen underneath (with a stethescope if necessary).

BINGO!!! This the the same noise mines been making since I got the car...drove it for the last year and a half that I had it on and off and it does it all the time..really bad in gear and off the gas .....That's why my transmission is off to TRE as wel speak. :p
