i had the ECU replaced a couple months ago because my IAC went bad and it took the ECU with it, so i replaced the ECU and IAC but now when i turn the key to the on position the ECU makes a high-pitched whine, even with the car off and the key out it'll continue to whine for about 30 secs, i tought it was the feature that lets you roll up your windows right ater you shutoff the car but the sound continued even after the window stopped moving.

well the clicking is normal in some ECU because they have internal relays, but mine is more of a electrical whine

I have a 95 N/T Talon and I say don't worry about it. It is just the ECU going through diagnostics and tests after you turn the car off. When it is done, it turns off and no more "whining".:thumb:

He has the only DSM with the built in whine feature that I have ever heard of.WTF
Has the ecu done this since it was installed, or is this a new problem. "dont worry about it" usually leads to more problems in my expierence. I'll check around and see what I can find. This is a problem I've never heard of. Are you sure its the ecu?

Yeah, I wouldn't put much faith in the "don't worry about it" method of problem diagnosis, either.....As the previous poster said, are you sure it's your ECU? Not sure what else it could really be, unless you've got an aftermarket stereo or other electronics placed nearby that might be doing this...

Just to make sure it is indeed the ECU (unless you've already verified this), take the center console panel off and pull the ECU out to the side on the passenger floorboard. That way you can really hear what it's doing, and can maybe even isolate the area of the board that the noise is coming from.

what i meant is that when you keep a large amount of electricity stored in a small capacitor it'll create a high pitched whine, i tought the noise was just the ECU holding power for the windows or anything it needed it for.

it's an N/T unfortunatly:toobad: , so the ECU is under the hood, but to the point i had my boss at work help me out and he said that had happened to his 1G and the ECU was basically frying itself from the inside, my ECU is still under warranty so i parked the car at work took out the old ECU and i'm going to get a new one tomorrow.

Mine has done this ever since I purchased it from a dealer more than 2 years ago and it runs perfectly. It does it after I turn the car off and since I have a a/f gauge tapped into it, I can see it testing the o2 and most likely other things and after its done, it clicks and the power is completely off. Maybe its a 95 N/T thing since the computers changed in 96 for OBD II. My production date is 8/94 with all the DSM emblems everywhere instead of mitsu emblems which the rest of the 95-99s have. Just a thought.
