First off let me start by saying hello to everyone! I am new to the DSM world I am originally a VW driver, but I have hit my max on power and money. So I bought a 97 Eclipse GS-T for dirt cheap. But the catch was it needed a crankshaft, from everyones knows what. The head was just re-done and the car only has 62k miles on it.

So here is my story. I bought the car and planned on just rebuilding the entire motor. Then my friend broke his timing belt on a 94 Talon. These both have a 7 bolt motor. SO our great plan "hey just swap the blocks from the talon and into the elcipse." Well so far so good we have the motor out of the talon and the car is in the junk yard. But now i have to get the motor out of the eclipse and switch the blocks. Will this even work?

So the help I need is what parts do I need, i.e. gasckets, screws, bolts, belts and such. I am trying to get this done this weekend so all input will help.

Sweet car, but may I ask, did you check the block for internal damage. The T.B going out can take out pistons and other things.

Yes it will work fine. You might as well replace all the gaskets. I believe advance auto has a whole gasket set you can buy. I would recommend some arp head studs and a mls head gasket though.

Edit:: Might as well also get a bsek while its out and a new oil pump assembly.

hey welcome to the dsm world. the motor swap WILL NOT work unless you remove that wing on the back. 62k miles aint bad, how much did you spend for it? my 95 gst with low miles was 2900 in great shape.is his talon awd? if they are both 7 bolts then its the same engine. Did his timing belt blowing up on him cause any issues with the motor you may not know about?

The swap will work if they are both 7-bolt motors, check the rotating assembly for internal damage to the pistons from their more than likely collision with the valves on your friend's Talon.

Ok first of all I only paid 3000 for the Eclipse and 300 for the talon, and I am doing all of the work. So this is an extreme economy build LOL. The talon is a FWD N/T, so I will have to take it apart to check out the damage but he was only going 5 mph pulling up to a red light when the car died, from the timing belt breaking. Also the head and head gasket were just replaced in my elcipse, basically the top end was rebuilt with no worry about the bottom end, then of course he blew the bottom end<dumb a** LOL>

So parts list so far I need a gasket set from advanced auto parts, arp head studs, beer, anyhing else you guys think I will need?

haha sorry the bumper is off and just sitting on in that pic, it isnt attached. and no im staying with my turbod eclipse the motor block that I bought is off a N/T talon.

I hope you have a way to tune for the higer CR in the N/T short block that you will turbo.
from what I understand the diffrence is in the pistons.

so wait I am confused is this more difficult than I think it will be? I figured it would be a direct block swap and then take the car to be tuned... is this not true?

EDIT: I do DSMLink in the eclipse. Will this help?

ok just spoke with ISP in maryland. They said the swap will be absolutely no trouble just need a good tuning after the swap.

I really hope it is as easy as im thinking it is LOL. Next weekend we are doing the swap so I will let everyone know how is goes.

Does anyone have any pointers before I begin?

Remember to pre-oil the turbo that is going on, so that it doesn't run dry at all. that will prolong the life of your tubro substantially. Other than that, good luck with your build. and let us know how it goes.

so today we are removing the AC, power steering, and all of the lines for this useless junk. What else to take off? Also should I just go bigger turbo while I have everything out and before I get it tuned?

Ok one motor out and stripped down to the block, now to the eclipse... Here we go.
