Helicoil re-thread question. Turbo bolts stripped

I had the same problem. Lucily I only had one that was stripped. I helicoiled it and only tourque it to 35lb instead of the 47lb spec. Its been three months and seems fine. Just recheck tourque specs on the 4 bolts after a few heat cycles

Yes if you go to your local harbor freight there is a tap and die kit there for $14 bucks. Buy it. Then find out what size hole you currently have and re thread it. Do not use a regular drill bit cause you might bore the hole out to big and will have fitment and clearance issues. Then go to your local o'rielys or ace hardware and buy the size coil and stud for the hole you just bored and some loctight. I'm sure you can figure it out from there. I had to do my studs for my manifold and she is working just fine.

But yes you drill stripped threads then tap with the supplied tap, make sure you use a cutting oil can be picked up at most tool stores. Then insert heilcoil into threads you cut and bend the little assit tab on the ccoil inward. There you have a repairs thread, now pit your turbo on and go boosting

Dont just use a m10x1.25 tap. It is special tap that comes with the kit. I just did a few on my old hotside and its kinda a PITA. But yes just drill out and tap with STI tap the kits come with Standard Thread Insert. Insert heli coil with special tool.

I know your asking about helicoils but have you looked into timeserts? I know the price can be a detergent but I can say having used timeserts on my hotside, and helicoils on my old truck, I find the timeserts far superior and worth the extra $40 or so.
