heater blowing warm, not hot

heat doesnt come out hot just warm. temp guage in the middle. upper hose is hotter than lower hose. this lead me to buy a thermostat. i think its stuck open. just pulled the old one and installing a new one. however, if this doesnt work im looking for some more ideas. thanks guys

Have you "burped" the system? Air can collect in the heater core.

just checked old tstat: i could blow right through it. the new one: sealed tight. that was the problem, im almost sure of it now.

warmed up at least 10 degrees. also, i was getting a p0170 lean code. read that it could be related to engine temps. i drove over 25 miles and it hasnt returned. fingers crossed.
