Well after running in to all the little problems ive been having lately with my car, i`ve ran into another one. The fabric on my headliner is starting to come undone and now its hanging a bit by the driver side window and it starting to come off by my passenger side window. I wasnt too surprised when i saw it, so i was thinking about redoing it myself....just spray on some glue underneath the loose fabric. Can this be done by me? i mean i would like to try this myself as a matter of fact. What kind of glue should i use and where can i get this? If anyone has done this feel free to give me some advice...any advice is greatly appreciated LOL

I don't think you'd have to much of a problem re-upholstering your headliner. As long as you can get around in your car (popping off panels, finding bolts/screws)- I think you should be okay.

First off, pick out a material you want to wrap your headliner in. I would suggest something soft like ultrasuede/microsuede (cheaper than real suede) or fleece. (it's easier to manipulate, bend, stretch - opposed to vinyl for instance)
Here's a website you can order fabric from by the yard.

Next you'll need some sort of adhesive so the fabric sticks, I suggest using 3M Spray Adhesive Super 77. You should be able to pick that up from a local hardware store. But in case there's none close by, here's a link to where you can buy it. (Also you might need 2 cans of the adhesive)

Also, when you do the headliner make sure you take the old fabric off and apply the new fabric to the board, because the fabric will just sag again.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

^^^ I agree.
I did mine in black fleece with the 3M Adhesive spray...turned out great and no sagging problems so far.
Also just to reiterate, make sure you know how to take out the plastic pieces. I know I snapped a small piece or two taking them out, and then there are 4 (I believe) giant plastic pin things in the corners of the headliner board. Just take your time and be careful. It's easy, it just requires some finesse.

Dude show pictures!!!! I've been thinking long and hard about this, and I wanna do the headliner and a few other interior panels... but I'm sketchy... I dont want to get into a project that I can't get done the right way.

Headliner material is MUCH better to use, because it HAS foam on the back.
http://miamicorp.com/ for material.

Do you really need the foam? Are you that tall? haha jp! I just wanna do my headliner in some kind of black or navy blue microfiber/swede. I'm not too concerned about having it plush.

If anyone burns my headliner with a cig... I'll killem! LOL

Be sure to remove all the old dried up nasty foam crap from the headliner board. The better your preparations to the board, the better/longer the new headliner will stick.

Ok after reading all the advice you all gave me, i think i can pull this off. But i have one more simple question - My interior is black and that real light tan color (lighter then that peanut butter tan color) what would look good with that? just find something close to the original color and call it a day?

In person, it matches 100%. But since the dash is dusty as hell, the flash shows all the dirt!

Flat Black Vinyl/Fabric Paint. That stuff rocks! My interior was the Beige color... with a black dash.

I'm doing my headliner in black most likely. Just to make the interior darker... .

Yea i saw your pics on that thread InfiniteGSX.....nice work!!! I used that Duplicolor vinyl spray stuff and that stuff rocks! i redid my panels too, mine are a bit too shiny for me, but yours look great! :thumb:

Thats how mine was! I first tried the glossy black cause that was all Autozone had at the time. I didn't know there was a flat black... And after I did them, I noticed that they didn't match the dash... what so ever! So I sanded down the door panels as best as I could with some refinishing sponges... like 320grit or something. And I found the flat black and tried that since I saw someone else's interior with it... and it matches man! If you clean your dash and get it lookin shiny... everything looks soo flippin awsome! But I'm not worrying about my dash, I gotta replace it... pretty much everything on it is damaged on the inside...

I'm actually in the process of re-doing my headliner as well... it wasn't planned, but I had a sunroof malfunction. I actually just finished doing a write up on it and included "How to Remove the Headliner" portion. It's pretty descriptive so you shouldn't have any problems.

Let me know if it helps at all. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=266567

Infinite... What parts of the doors were tan? I'm repainting my grey interior black, but am only doing the lower half (the parts that are hard ABS plastic). I'm using Krylon Fusion Satin Black but just painted my seats using the Duplicolor Vinyl/Fabric paint.

All of it! My dash was black... The door panels were Beige. The hard plastic peices, the vinyl... all beige. And I used the Interior Paint...

DO NOT let that Krylon touch the vinyl... you'll kick yourself in the ass... it doesn't fully dry on Vinyl. Thats why I just used the Vinyl paint on all of it... It works and so far no chiping, no scratches... its holding up quite nice!

I was going to do my seats... but I'm just going to re uphoster the rear seats how I want them... and I'm going to install some Sparco Torino seats in the front.

Don't get me wrong... I'm definitly going to be replacing my front seats. The only reason I expierimented with painting them is because they were bright yellow ebay deathtraps. I have NO IDEA why anyone in their right mind would ever even think about installing crap ass yellow ebay seats in a Red 2G. So, my options were: Spend $600 on the Megan Racing Seats that I want right now and be in debt and happy... or spend $15 on paint and pray they don't look like crap... and be in 'not as much debt' and satisfied with a job well done.

I'm still in debt, but not any deeper then I was before, and get to plant my arse into seats that match my car. :)

BTW... thanks for the warning about getting the Fusion on the vinyl. I already planned on doing an extremely good masking job when it came to the door panels, but now i've been forwarned.
