I got a little happy with the VHT and did my tails and parking lights. My question is how do i smoke or tint the headlight while keeping everything stock and safe? I saw on a thread someone baking them? I plan on doing a 2gb conversion later with led's and halo's but just want something to look good untill now. T.I.A

I suggest baking them and pulling the lens off of the headlight assembly and spraying the VHT on the inside of it, that way it can't chip from road debris.

To bake the headlight SAFELY, pre-heat the oven to 280* and pull out a cookie sheet. Take a wash cloth and get it wet and then wring it out making it damp. Put the damp wash cloth on the cookie sheet and set the headlight assembly on the damp wash cloth, make sure it isn't touching the cookie sheet. There are (6) metal clips holding the lens to the housing, pop them off with a flathead screwdriver. Put the headlight assembly in the oven for 8-10min. and after you pull it out pry apart the lens from the housing. **BE CAREFUL ITS HOT**
When you VHT the lens the thinner the coat the more light will come through. If you want it "smoked" then don't spray on such a thick layer, do a nice thin layer and let it dry see if its the darkness you'd like. If its not, do another THIN layer of VHT on the inside of the lens and let it dry and see if its smoked.
To get the lens back on the housing heat the housing up in the oven to soften the glue up and then pull it out and press the lens back into it, re-attach those metal clips to hold the lens in while the glue cools to room temperature.

Thank very much for the info. How does it look after? Not spotty?

Also do nothing to the reflector part righ? Think I should upgrade the bulbs to some of those silverstars?

I would just do the 2Gb conversion and use the 2Gb black housing headlights and not have to worry about taking the headlight apart and painting the inside. And that way you have the better looks of the 2Gb front end, also you wont have to worry about the law giving you a hard time for it.

I think the Silverstars headlight bulbs are a waste of money, if you want to see better get a OEM fitting HID kit for $100. The ballasts mount in the back of the headlight housing like an OEM bulb and the install is simple and easy, visibility at night is AMAZING!
I pulled the orange "waffle" lens out of the blinker and changed my bulbs to the Sylvania Silverstar Amber turn signals. You can see the pictures in my profile of what the lens looks like with the orange waffle signal lens pulled with the Silvania Ambers installed.

I personally never VHT'd my headlights but I've done friends cars and to keep if from spotting and getting too dark you've got to do multiple THIN coats. Don't go crazy with it and lay it on there thick, just nice quick coating and let it dry. Repeat until its the shade you like and then follow it up with a few coats of clearcoat, DuPont A-7480S is good stuff.

You are correct. 2Gb conversion is more expensive, but looks so much better. I don't think you would be disappointed when you saw the end result.

Iv seen alot of people who try to do them by themselves and they turn out pretty ugly if i was you id just get them done professionally their is a certain type of tint material that they use to make them look perfect.
