I'm looking for a header for my 98 n/t. I have been looking @ DC sports and have noticed it doesn't have EGR. What is EGR and do most headers come with it? Does my car even have it?

I'm also looking @ a tsudo header to match my tsudo cat-back. Does this have EGR?

Thanks.

I don't think so. An O2 sensor is just a oxygen sensor.

Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) is a way to take a small amount of exhaust and recirculate it back into the intake manifold to dilute the air/fuel.

I was wondering if anyone knows which headers come with this...

Phoenix, AZ looks for EGR so if i don't get a header with it, I don't pass emissions.

You can see the extra pipe on the left of the header.

I've never heard of anyone WANTING EGR, i've always understood it to be a menace, which just dirties your intake system, and some people get rid of it by buying a block off plate. Though in my auto tech class we had a lesson that taught us that EGR is actually helpful, needed andadds Horsepower and efficiency.

P.S. I have OBX 4-1 headers on my car which i will soon be getting rid of due to turbo :thumb: but so far they have been great and i definitely recommend them, they're pretty cheap on Ebay too!

I need something with EGR. (i think). I was reading this post:

Here in Arizona there are only state controlled emissions centers.

If you are 96+ only an ODB-II test is done

If you are 90-95:

AWD=Only an idle test
FWD=They will put you on the rollers

They are picky on having lines going from the valvecover to the intake
and the charcoal canister to the intake and they will also completely
check for EGR hook ups
.

There is no "inspection" in Arizona. They don't car about rim size,
lowering, or whether your horn or blinkers work, only emissions
testing.

I had trouble passing emissions with my HKS 264/272 combo, otherwise
it hasn't been an issue with a high-flow cat and proper fuel tuning.

Update: I'm reading on DC sports website, and they say all their headers are C.A.R.B. legal. This means that they are legal in cali, and if they are legal in cali then they should be legal anywhere. Is this correct?

All you have to do is send in your proof of purchase and they will send you a C.A.R.B. sticker for the header. Would this mean it would pass emissions?

Different states have different Emission standards..What is legal in Cali, could be illegal where you live, but i believe Cali. is strict w/ emissions so if it's legal there it should be where you live(I'M NOT SAYING IT IS) Anyways, the OBX headers are just the tubes from the head to the single exhaust pipe w/ the o2 bung here is a picture of EGR on my car, you can't really see it in the pic but it'll give you a basic idea of it and it's location. and you were right it is a valve that opens up by a solenoid that allows unburned gasses to pass back through the intake and undergo the combustion process again to efficiently burn that fuel..

Thanks a lot Josh. So your saying the OBX header you have has the EGR, you didn't have to cap it off or anything?

no no no the headers i have, have nothing to do with the EGR system, you car should already have a EGR system on it, if you go outside and look at your engine on the right side it's located about where the head meets the block

So i'm just confusing it. The EGR system isn't even on the header?

Cause i'm looking @ the DC sports header. The only header they make for a 98 N/T is this one:

Mitsubishi Eclipse 1995-99 2.0L Non-Turbo w/out EGR Only.

That's what is says on their website. That's why I started thinking about EGR.

Yeah, i'm set on 4-2-1. I've heard some pretty crappy stories about the PaceSetter line.

Im still worried about the EGR on that DC sports header. I pretty sure I want to get the DC sports, and from what I hearing from you, you didn't have to mess with any of the EGR stuff on the OBX.

But if it wasn't part of the OEM exhaust manifold, why would they put that it is "w/out EGR"?

on the 420a the headers have nothing to do with your egr system. The egr is attached to the drivers side of the head and to the back of the intake manifold.

if you want to cheat you can block off the egr and still make it look like it is working. :thumb:

It has a bad reputation from the early days of EGR implementation- days of leaded fuel and retrofit kits made by STP that were absolute CRAP, and which would damage engines. VWs often committed acts of self-immolation after being saddled with EGR.
However, elimination of leaded gas and engineered-from-the-start installations have helped immeasurably:
