Head unit area

On the 91 Laser RS Turbo I have, the stock head unit takes up 4 inches (tall) with no dividers (comes with the equalizer), all one piece. I was wondering when you want to buy a new HU for it, you have to get the dual DIN head units/mounting brackets/and wire harness adapter. If you only wanted a single DIN what mounting bracket kit would you get and how would it mount properly? (Or does it not mount properly, you have to make it mount)...? The purpose I was thinking is to get a single DIN unit and use the other space for something else, not sure of the best way to go about this.

The stock brackets should meet up with most aftermarket stereo's. As for the dividers...I know that some of the 1g radio trim peices do not have a "divider" going across, I'm not sure if thats what you mean. Mine does, and the Apline I picked up fits in the first one. In my case I had the radio and tape deck on bottom. I took out the tape deck and for right now blocked it with a peice of balsa wood. It looks ghetto because I dont have any black spraypaint to paint the wood...

If you've got a couple bucks, just go to the audio store and get a cd "pocket". It's just basically a little insert that has 3 shelves in it for holding cd cases. I don't use it for that, but it's black and it's better than a piece of wood(Ha, no offense.)

There's usually 1-DIN DSM bezels on eBay.

Mine came with the same 4in high setup with no seperator. I got a new bezel with 2 2in openings for $2 on ebay and it works perfectly.
