Does running a thicker headgaskit not only increase VE, the amount of boost you can run, increase displacement? What are the pros/cons of doing this ethier it be a stock 2.0 stock motor, somewhere inbetween or a fully built 2.0/2.4? What are the pro/cons of running oem gaskit compared to cosmetic/multilayer, copper, metal, etc? What is the pros/cons of using a couple of head gaskits together? I know about the pros and cons of a few but others are unclear. I asked this because i ran into a fellow DSM'r who asked about this.

I also wanted to know if anyone has tried to machine or heard of a head spacer. They are the same as a intake manifold or throttle body spacer works however it bolts on inbetween the blockand head. I know that the head studs need to be longer and the timming belt needs to be longer. It would also need to be machined to let coolant and oil flow thru. I wanted to know cause i know that throttle body spacers and intake spacers work, but any way just a thought.

What are you trying to accomplish here? Are you trying to lower the compression ratio or fix a head that's been milled too far, or something else?

You don't want to use a really thick gasket, or spacer, or double gaskets. It will negatively affect cam timing and static compression ratio.

ok here is what i have... i have a reman head that i over heated and had to get decked.. now with the head instyalled i get a pinging from the cam area which i am thinking is the valves hitting the pistons at hi rpms.. they said they cut 18 thousandths off to get it straight.. and who knows how much was off it before that.. now my question is WHAT WOULD BE A BETTER FIX.. I PAID 250 FOR THE HEAD AND NOW 100 TO GET IT DECKED AND 50 FOR A NEW GASKET.. I WAS THINKING OF A BLOCK RISER AND A METAL HEAD GASKET OR MAYBE JUST A THICKER HEAD GASKET.. BY THE WAY WITH ALL TIMING MARKS LINED UP,,, THE EXHAUST CAM TIMING MARKS ARE OFF ALMOST A HALF A TOOTH SO WHAT SHOULD I DO
