Clover Ridge,
Just wondering, if i were to use a coolant additive to help seal a blown head gasket, what it would do the the rest of the system? http://www.rxauto.com/?gclid=CLP35vbqr40CFQpJYQod0A_nxQ

I just need a temporary fix for about two weeks. Im going on vacation in two days and need my car to hold coolant for the 5hr drive.

The problem im having now is when i drive the car for a prolonged period of time (30+min) at highway speeds it looses coolant and over heats. Thus me having to pull over let it cool down and refill the coolant.

I already have the head gasket just no time to install it before i go on vacation.

Where is losing coolant from? Overflow? Has the head gasket been positively diagnosed? Just curious here. A friend of mine recommends "Head Gasket in a Can" I believe it's called. I'll find out for sure tomorrow at work. It's $60 for one can but it advertises as a real FIX. He's tried it in a few cars when customer's money was a big issue (out of towners, etc) and he raves about it. He's ASE certified, not shade tree. But IMO a straight-edged head and new head gasket is the only REAL fix!

Just a side note, if you're losing coolant that fast, it probably just plain isn't a good idea to go on a road trip with it. Even if you did replace the head gasket, you're going to want more than 1 or 2 days of in town driving to make sure everything is ok. Borrow or rent a ride man!

I would advise against temp repairs unless it's an absolute emergency. It can be done but I would hold off until proper repairs can be made. You won't be sorry.

Good Luck

Most of these magic potions can cause more harm than good. It would be best to either fix it correctly, or take a different vehicle.
