Head bolts size: 6mm? 6-bolt motor JDM

I am currrntly trying to take the head off the motor (on an engine stand) and i have heard that the bolts can be 10mm, but mine are well away from 10mm; a 5mm fits in but still has some play (very little but enough). Anyone have anyideas?

For my 6 bolt I used a 10mm Hex bit. Maybe someone changed your head bolts and used a funky size? Try Standard size bits also, Sometimes one of those will fit better!

Yeah thats what i keep hearing, unless the head bolts are the 4 bolts in the middle the 10mm wont fit anywhere else

Maybe you have ARP bolts. there a 5mm hex bit will fit, but its only to screw the bolts in the block before the head is put on.
For ARP bolts you need a 12 point 12mm socket.

You guys where right, it ended up being ARP studs. Also the motor had an MLS gasket on there. BTW i bought this 6bolt AWD motor locally thus me not knowing whats on it. Its a complete running motor with ECU work (retuned? and caps replaced) wire harness, strut bar, Fuel reg and adjustable fuel rail. All for 650. But along with all these surprises i found 5 bent valves and some nice piston hits. But its all going to be fixed in the rebuild

EDIT: and just so if anyone else reads this, it was a 12 point start 14mm socket
