having a problem with the idling

i have a 1.8 94 eclipse and I'm having a problem with the idling on the car one min it wants to idle up to 2 to2 1/2 and then next time you stop it wants to die on you i have notice if you put your hand on top of the intake and barely press down on it the rpms will drop and if you raise up on it it will go up could this be a blown intake gasket or what?

sounds like the intake is loose, are the bolts tight could be snugged down and not tight.

i havent check yet it just started to night on the way home was going to check them in the morning

If you are fortunate, it's only loose. If you're like me, you will likely have to replace the intake gasket.

tighten the bolts if a no go... then it's time for a performance intake! yay!

ok so i found the problem the intake was cracked on all 4 it had hair line crackes in it so i got it wielded back up and runs like a charm

ok so i have fixed one problem and now i got another one when i plug up the ips on the side of my thottle body it will not let me go over 2000 rpms but it runs fine with out it how do u test to see if its working correctly and does anybody now what large casing alt will work on the 1.8l even with min mods i need 200 amps or more thanks

As for an Alternator I'm not sure what the largest you could fit in the alternators location. What are you planning that you need a high output Alt?
