Hate to say it but... I AM GLAD GAS PRICES ARE HIGH. Look inside for my reason.

Examples would work well here. Especially for those of us who have to drive several miles to our workplaces in high traffic conditions. Moving closer is also not always an option as not all of us can afford to move or don't want to move for other reasons(own a house).

Please show some facts on this, I'd like to see this data. also I'd like to see what type of fuel the vehicles use. is it standard petrol or diesel?

Our fuel consumptions increase but we have also had improvements on fuel consumption. There are several problems though like some older cars that don't have the greatest fuel economy by design(how is your awd car on fuel economy?). Not having good public transportation in some major cities also is an issue.
It is correct that supply and demand has a lot to do with it, especially when other countries(China, india) are now needing more and more fuel to power their growing cities. But there are some other causes for the increases, one which has been a huge issue has been our hands in the conflicts in the middle east. This along with the war mongering that our fine president seems fit to do has caused fears in the market and prices spikes due to speculation.

As for the refineries....well Katrina didn't help....or oil refineries being shut down in between the 70s-90s

What would you expect with a resource that is cheap..fuel, food, whatever it is, we tend to max it to the limit because we don't care(or the obvious lack of forsight).

Everytime the market sees an opportunity, it tries to sell to the people it knows will buy it's products and services. This goes for everything not just fuel....
Next time you watch TV, pay attention those commercials and really understand what they are saying. look at all of the peolpe in those commercials, whether it be BLING soft drink, or dish soap or that new 300hp car that you must have because you deserve to live the life of luxury....
It's not just about having the biggest car or truck, it's about what you deserve...

Just like ethonal is just a bandaid....
lets see how that will help when the crops are being decimated by flooding or some other calamity....oh wait...

..and due to the fact that the combustion engine hasn't changed much in what 80 years....yeah...there will be problems with efficiencies....if engines where like computer processors, we'd be in some pretty sweet cars right now....

huh?

So do you think this is the only way that we are inefficient?
When was the last time you washed your car? Do you bring reusable bags to the store for your groceries?
do you walk to the store if it's close enough? What is your ecological footprint on this planet.....

Now this was funny, the other day I saw a news report on how dealers are not taking suv's as trade-ins....suckers

Good effort, bad presentation. The image didn't sell me either....you might as well put a dsm in there with a 2.4 stroker, 1600+ injectors and a turbo that would scare most of the people on this board....

Google search...
Cause i go eat foodz now.

Its just marketing, to get you be someone your not, i could explain this but all it does is make you need or want something to be something your not.

Yeah middle of the country is getting raped.

Yeah 80 years with the motor, ah look what we acomplished in the last 30 years, or want just 22 cause bush fd the last 8 up.

We as a world need to move off of petrol, Every 10 years, we go through this crap. Ans the oil company know its time is almost at a end. They are milking it by the balls.

My economical damage is small i dont wash my car ever... i live like i am in india, when it rains i use that to wash my car.
I dont reuse bags as i use them to pack stuff in and ship out stuff.
I do infact walk. Like i was still in the ghetto. Got 2 legs time to kick rocks (meaning walk).

Yeah its not good but i am far from the worse. But no matter everyone still contributes.

Yep i told all my friends more than a year ago to get rid of em, some did and thanked me, some did not and i laughed at them i told them so and they did not believe me. Know next time they heed my advise.
In the last 4 months most suv and trucks have lost 1/2 they value in 4 months than what they would normally lost in 3 years.

Yeah i know typing to get people is not my strong points, but Who dd that to work everyday? Its a dsm, not a new car. people dont trust them enough to go cross country.

Like i seen someones signature, dsm's are like helocopters they require mantinance measured in hours, not weeks.

But i dont use my talon to dd, i use something else that gets 40+ and even 30+ beating the crap out of it doing 80 while i go t a 300 dollar junkyard motor and trans from the local pick and pull.

You guys who have said our consumption continues to rise need to do a little more research. According to the GAO our fuel consumption has dropped by 500,000 barrels a year for the last 2 years. It's not much but it is not an increase. The overall world consumption has held pretty much steady for the last couple years but thats because ours and Europe's has slightly decreased while India and China have increased. The biggest reason the prices are so high has very little to do with a shortage of supply and a lot to do with speculators running up the prices of oil futures on the commodities market. If you don't know what that is do a little research before you jump to conclusions about why things are the way they are. According to guys who invest in oil futures for a couple of the huge trading firms the price per barrel based on supply and demand levels should be about $80.00 not $140.00 or $150.00.

As for the OP, get over it dude.
The idea that a cut back in gas consumption by us "gluttinous Americans" is going to help children in a 3rd world country is laughable. The primary reason for poverty in the world is not over consumption it's corrupt governments and tribal warfare thats been going on for centuries. Yeah, those starving kids tug at your heart strings but sending aid isn't going to help them when their government intercepts it and gives it to their lackies.

It's your point, you give the examples....

Your numbers seem a bit dubious....what is your dd? My other car gets 30(or so it says)only on the best days with little traffic, feathering the gas, and not starting/stopping too often.......
as long as I can afford it I'll keep feeding the beast the premium....

Honestly, I never paid too much attention to the mpg on my gsx, I know that if I can go a week on a tank, I'm doing good....but I didn't get the car to be a dd, I bought it to take it to the track....it's become a part time dd though due to my gf's unreliable car.....

Yeah you part right i forgot about that i just re-read it i dunno why it did not click when i made this thread.

...and you trust our government to give us accurate data?? :D ROFL

Anyway, I couldn't find the article that you were quoting, but this other report on the site which only goes from 1960 to 2005 showed a slightly increase overall.
U.S. GAO - Summary
I'd only heard in recent weeks of a report on the lower consumption especially in the last year.

Well you obviously have not got much of a clue on what your talking about. That Escalade you posted, probably gets within 2-3MPG of your DSM. They get better gas mileage than alot of vehicles actually.

Most refineries have the capability to output more oil, but there is not enough demand for them too. Speculators anyone?

OK on this topic, if you like to go fast and hate paying for high gas prices check this out!!!!!

ps 100% torque from 0-13000 RPMS! 0-60mph in 3.9 seconds! 256 miles per gallon equivalent!

I found out they had a showroom not too far away from where I work....took a look about 2 weeks ago...those are some swweeet rides..... :)

I agree about OP being a hypocrite. Show us that you can cut back on fuel. Come on, Your parts wishlist consists of a huge ass holset turbo.

No what we need to do is teach you to type. Man I am sorry to poke fun at you but how am I supposed to take you seriously when you don't even take the time to proofread what you type.

I kept it simple.

I agree about OP being a hypocrite. Show us that you can cut back on fuel. Come on, Your parts wishlist consists of a huge ass holset turbo.

Yeah in the last 10 months both of my cars have not been driven, yeah they are running but since i sell things over the internet i dont need to even have a car.

I have not spent any money on gas the last 10 months.

Lets not get started with you.

Any who i am gonna go get drunk.

I think the haters on this thread are just jumping on the bandwagon of the first guy who opposed silverbullit. WE ALL drive shitbox DSMs that get crappy gas mileage, big whoop. The point OP was making is that in periods of famine (of whatever sort, in this case gas) it makes the general populace cut back on excessive spending. Americans are guilty of just that, spending too much money and wasting away precious resources that could be put to better use. I fully support that notion, but no, i'm not going to go give my 15 mpg talon into the donation box any time soon. Whoever doesn't understand the basic meaning of supply/demand and recession needs to get a grip and stop saying ' yea me too '.

Well said.

i like my talon wehter its 25+mpg on the back roads or, going wot down them. Ill admit there are some things i wont change but then again...

None out of all the cars i own have moved or been driven since august of last year.

I Still will keep the talon even if it got 10, i have other cars.

On a side note anyone know of some drink mixes for vodka.... I wanna try something new.

Any old car will have some sort of problems contributing to inefficient fuel consumption. My point was a pre 2k car will not make matters a whole lot better than they are now.

WTF

My bro's 93 Civic DX is getting 40+ mpg.

spot-####ing-on :thumb:

i cant pull a boat with a civic.

ill continue driving my 450whp, 14mpg Cobra to work and back, knowing that, unlike the rest of the pos econoboxes on the road, i can get to freeway speeds before my retirement plan runs out. You know what, just for this thread, im going to do a nice 3rd to 4th gear pull tomorrow, spewing gobs of pollution from my archaic inefficient V8 turd, just cause i can.

btw, we have enough barrels of oil in the US territories (IE US States) to run the world for the next 100 years, we arent drilling it yet because we are waiting for everyone else to "run out", then well throw down and go "hey check it out, we found some oil! umm, 300$ a barrel!" and well be right back on top.

not to mention, nobody can prove oil is a non-renewable resource. they are finding they can go back into old wells that were dry 50 years ago and guess what? theres oil there again. hrm.

USA needs to start drilling our own (i dont feel like waiting for the rest of the world to "run dry") and we need to start building more refineries and updating old ones to meet demand. If we got our shit together, stopped listening to the tree huggers, said "#### the Caribou", gas prices would be under $2.00 a gallon by the middle of next decade.

These posts are retarded. Just because the OP is not "economic" it does not mean you shouldn't be. What's right is right, regardless of who does it.

"Oh, well, I'll do it only if everyone else is doing it." Is an uneducated way of thinking.
