HATCH 2G differences part numbers GSX GST GS RS ESI TSI

Hello,

I have a 97 GSX build in 96.10.1
the hatch on my car now is from a 97 red eclipse RS build in 97.05.01

It doesnt quite fit right. It sits too high, and there is no more room to adjust on the latch. It looks like it hasn't completely closed.

I have checked my mitsu caps program. The AWDs and FWD turbos have two different hatches. mr273717 for the later models (2gb), and mb959370 for the earlier models. I think the change happened somewhere after 96.06.1
As far as the 420a models, RS, GS, ESI, etc, etc, there are like 5 different part numbers: mb959367, mb959368, mb959369, mb959370, mr27377.

As far as you guys are concerned, other than the spoiler mounting points, what are the differences? Are the chassis mounting points different, or the latches, strikers, or the hatches themselves?

Have you tried adjusting them? Loosening the bolts and adjusting it?

yes, i've spend some time adjusting it.
the adjustment on the hinges give it a front-to-back adjustment, the adjustment on the latch is what controls the up and down adjustment. Some latches don't even have the up and down adjustment, so don't know how those are adjusted.

The difference is only in where the holes are punched for the spoiler mounts. The body sheet metal is the same for all 2Gs until you get to the inner engine compartment. Some have mounting holes for different plastics at different points.
Why is your hatch needing replacement? Is it collision repair? Something else may be amiss.

I bought my car with a hatch from a different vehicle. I think the preivous owner has hiis hatch glass broken. As oppose to replacing the glass he decided to swap the whole thing. I don't know why.

Are you basing the information above on actual personal experience? Have you attempted any hatch swaps yourself? The reason why i ask is because I am going throught that now and I'm running into obstacles. I have seen pictures of the latch for example, and I know that there are at least two different kinds. I have done some searching and I have found out that there have been changes made to the hatch because of rusting issues. I have also visually inspected them to notice slight differences in the unsderside of them. i'm going to a local junkyard to see what I can find.

I had a similar problem, and yes they are different, junk yard help me out. The biggie is
adjusting them bolts and height.

Man that sucks. I was supposed to buy a 97 GSX hatch for my 97 GST but after seeing this Im a little worried since mine has rust and is leaking.

So after seeing this what about those who have done Carbon Fiber hatches??? Does that mean that GSX/GST/GS/RS/ESI/TSI/TSIAWD all have different hatches for their year make???

This sucks .

Cesar how has your progress been?

If possible does anybody else have experience in this? Any additional help would be greatly appreciated.

I have swapped my hatch twice now, and I have a 95 GS, originally I put on a 97 Gs hatch and the latch was actually longer than my stock 95 GS one. I just recently put a 97 GST hatch on the same 95 GS and the latch wasn't longer .I'm gonna see If I still have the longer one I'll put up picture to show the difference.

the GST hatches do not properly fit the GSXs. However, that doen't mean that the GSX hatches don't fit the GSTs, who knows.

I got a 96 gsx hatch for my 97. it fits perfect.


The gs rs and gst hatches may be interchangeble. I'll post a pic showing the difference I found.

hmmm,,, I had to get a new hatch for my 95 talon after my rear window got busted out. I replaced it with a 95 gs hatch, I had to move the strikers (rubber stopers on the hatch and body its selt) other then that, looks great and no issues.

In caps, I have two part numbers.
MB959370 for 94 1.1 to 96 6.3 builds
MR273717 for 96 7.1 to 99 4.3 builds

Dont know what is diffrent besides what Defiant has said about the spoiler mounting holes, other then that same.

Are the hatches different on 1g's? I have somewhat the same problem on my car. That or my hatch is warped like hell.

Mabe this is why my '96 gst looks shorter than my friends '96 tsi awd. Hmmmm.

this is a gs hatch.

my hatch fits with everthing in place. The GS one didn't.

I marked the differences on the picture. There are 2 holes, one on each side.

Im still thinking if I should get that 97 GSX hatch for my 97 GST . I don't want to risk it not fitting correctly on mine.

As for the Carbon hatches, some say they leak as there not perfict for the glass, diffrent companys have diffrent ways of making them and the glass doest fit right.

I know mine is leaking around the bottom left corner, safelite will reseal my glass for 105 so im going to go that route before hunting down another hatch.

Seal it yourself... 3m makes some stuff for it.

I've tried with 3m and other sealents, nothing worked, What im thinking is the lower seal (under the window) has ether rotted away or shifted.. As i've sealed the top one, not sure if you can get it off now , but its getting in there somewhere and leaking. I wish I still had my old hatch, never leaked, but when your hatch window gets busted out , you have a few options, A $350 for a new hatch window or B junkyard hatch from a 95 Gs for $75 with glass and unknown leak, i took the $75.
