Hey guys since I am currently in the middle of a rebuild,do you think it would be a good idea to reuse the stock harmonic balancer or replace it with a new oem or fluidampr just for cheap insurance? Its pretty much the last thing I would have to purchase for the rotating assembly before I take everything to the machine shop.

If your doing a rebuild, the smart thing to do would be at LEAST replace it with an OEM one. If you have $250 to blow, get the fluidampner. I heard those things really never need replaced again. I had to replace mine recently, went with a new one. Why not, I hate replacing things twice.

check to see what condition the rubber liner is in . whether it's all cracked or loose , how the grooves for the belt look or even if the lip for the belt edge has cracks or chunks missing. none of the options you've are bad ones .

If its an original one/never been replaced, replace it. The rubber loves to crack on older ones and the balancer will wobble and scuff the timing cover, sometimes fail and lose belts... or worse!!!

I bought an OEM one for $80 shipped to my door. Also Dorman makes one for $65 through rockauto and is just as good as the OEM one

I have read bad things about the Dorman ones.
