aight guys quick question, i just did a six bolt swap and the engine that i put in my car sat for 3 years only being started a few times. now it doesnt wanna start if i let it sit for a long period of time like when i went to work tonight (that sukked). what could it be and what should i do. oh also to get it to start i have to take the hose off the elbow and hold my hand over the throttlebottle to choke it manually :notgood: while someone else turns it over then when it finally starts it runs great though:thumb:

I had the exact same problem as you when i did my 6 bolt swap. You could check the stuff that larsenracing said but that doesn't sound like the problem. If it was a fuel filter, more than likely it would start, but then die after the filter got clogged up.

When i did my swap, i had a very hard time getting my car to start if it sat for about two hours or so. I would have to crank it, then wait, then crank *sputter* and wait. I would do this until it started. I came to find that the coolant temperature sensor was dead. Not the coolant GAUGE sensor, but the sensor that the ECU looks at. This SHOULD throw an CEL but in my case it didnt.

I would check into it.

yes i did do a complete tune up on it it just seems like maybe something sgummed up in the throttle body does it have an electic choke or something that could be stuck?

You might want to verify the pre-rail, post-filter fuel pressure. Sounds like you have a leak somewhere before the rail that's causing a steady drop in fuel pressure. Does the car have an aftermarket fuel pump? I would be especially suspicious of fuel pressure if this is the case. The fuel pump o-rings (even on stock pumps) can wear out causing pressure to bleed back down to near-zero.

If fuel pressure looks okay, I'd look into the ECT as RossY suggested.

Does the car start and stay running with the aid of starter fluid, or is it still difficult?

ok so just on a hunch i went to dollar general and bought some carb cleaner, because usually when you spray it into your intake it will try to die out , so i spray in about 4 times put hose back on and it starts after a few trys and some spitting and sputtering,as apposed to me holding my hand over it for 20 minutes this is much better, but still annoying. is there some kind of a choke of some sort? that seems to be what the prob is,i have to choke it myself you know weird i know

and im about an hour east of pittsburgh speeddemon that'd be a haul just to come look at my ride thanks though, but i do live about 15 minutes from slowboyracing come check that out i guess
