ya i have a 93 eagle talon tsi and i have a couple problems maybe you guys can help me out with, the car is really hard to put into first and the clutch is all the way down, and when i go in to reverse its hard and i here the gears grinding i think. is this the clutch or what? also in the morning it has idle surge i think? revs from like 700- 1200 and then dies all the time! im new to dsm's, dont really know anything about them but im learning.

For the grinding issue...

No it's probably not your clutch. Clutches typically just slip when they go bad. What you are describing is probably something to do with the hydraulics. Check under your pedals, you will see where the clutch pedal goes through the firewall into the clutch master cylinder. Make sure there is no fluid leaking into the car. Check your reservoir, make sure it is full. And thirdly, check that the slave rod is extending far enough. Have someone press down on the clutch and watch the slave, make sure it is extending properly.

Hope this helps, it should be one of those 3! ;)

For the idle surge, just search "idle surge" it's something almost everyone comes across with at least one DSM. Here's a link to setting the TPS: http://www.plymouthlaser.com/tps.htm

You also need to check the ISC, possible the idle switch and FIAV, and set your base idle properly (BISS). Search on all these items and you will find what you need.

Good luck!

For the gearing problems all the stuff checked out ok. Im thinking its most likely the clutch now but its not really slipping though. Thanks a lot for helping me out though! Anybody else have any suggestions?

Did you check the cables? Make sure they aren't bound or worn on the ends where they connect to the tranny. Or anything is restricting their movement. Here's a thread mostly on cables:

Unfortunately, the only way to figure this one out may be to drop the tranny, but if you suspect a clutch problem, you will be anyway! I would just suggest looking into as much as you can while the tranny is still on, cause if you get that tranny back on and still have a problem you are gonna be pissed thinking about having to drop it AGAIN.

Have you tried putting it in all the gears with the car off? That would help narrow it down to the clutch as well. Hope you find something.

checked all the clutch cables and every little thing to expect without takeing off the tranny its and still grinding and hard to put in gear, i heard 1g trannies are very weak, how much would a good condition tranny be if that was the case.
