Either bad shift cables or a bad syncro. There tech articles that discribe how to check and replace shift cables.

i have the same problem and i was told to get a short shifter and heavy shift knob and it would fix it, haven't done it yet though. still tryin to finsih stroker short block.:dsm:

If it's having trouble getting into every gear, try bleeding your clutch line and adjusting the preload on the master cylinder.

ill try that thanks !!

On a 91 Also check the Clutch master Cylinder for leaks and the Fluid level also on the Slave Cylinder popp the little rubber boot off. See if its full of Oil if so the seal could be blown causing these issues too.

-The Slave cylinder is located on the front of the trans and wil have the Bleader on it.

My 92 had Both go bad the Master Cylinder was actually leaking inside the car :(

Mainly 1-4 and sometimes it tends to grind often.

With engine off

Is 5 or R har also?

Is it hard to push forward or pull sideways?

With the car off, I have no problems going into any of the gears including R. It's only when the car is started for 1-4 and 5 and R sometimes has problems but not as much as 1-4. Anyone have any ideas?

Ok now tell me this,
How does you clutch pedal play fell? Stiff/hard. Is it mushy/soft

Stupid question:

Have you adjusted your seat or the way you sit? If so maybe the clutch is not getting pushed in all the way like before.

the clutch is pretty stiff/hard. I haven't adjusted the seat or the way I sit. I've tried pushing the clutch all the way down so it goes as far as it can and it still does it.

I checked your vehicle profile and didn't see a clutch -- do you have an aftermarket clutch installed? This sounds like it could be a clutch issue to me. I am having a similar problem, but haven't had enough time lately to get it fully checked out. I am suspecting a problem with my ACT2600 is the culprit, though. Hopefully someone with more direct experience will be able to clarify this. I have read many posts about ACT clutches having inherent problems w/ installation that will cause them to fail early and cause many of the symptoms you've described.

In the meantime, have you checked your shifter bushings and cables? Have a friend shift through the gears (car off) and watch the shifter cables on the trans. Sometimes a hose, bolt, group of wires, etc will fall down onto the path of the shifter cable making it hard (or impossible) to shift properly.

Good luck.
